MPG Happy Talk

Recommended Posts

I came close to buying a red Focus hatchback. I just didnt want to give up the extras the Fusion has. Glad I didnt at this point though, very pleased with the Fusion, even if it does get only 38 when the AC is on going home. I make up for it by driving windows open in the morning and getting near 50. 50 Yesterday and 49.4 this morning.

Had a good trip this morning. Lighter traffic and was able to coast to most stop signs. Took the secondary route which has higher speed limits (55) until I enter the city and a lot of hills.

I've broken two personal records, in two days. 60.2 yesterday on the way to work. 61.1 today. Both trips were over 40 miles on the highway.

That's awesome! I see you have 14k miles so your Fusion is definitely broken in!

I had some spare time, so I followed a rather safe distance behind a semi, traveling 62-63mph. Used the ICE when traveling up hills, and electric mode on any down grades.

I definitely don't "draft", because I don't want stone chips, or to hit a tire fragment on the freeway. However it seems following a 53' high cube even at 150-200' helps with milage.

I also noticed that the mileage has been improving as I put more miles on it.

So it CAN be done in this car! That is great news. I was able to do the same in my 2010 FFH, and knowing someone else has done it in the new one gives me high hopes.

12 MPG difference between windows down or AC on. Thats what I see with my commute. 38 or 50 so I am warm for a little while. Have to admit, it brings back memories from when I was a kids, our old 79 LTD wagon didnt have AC, Always drove windows down.

Trip distance was about 5 miles, mixed urban and 55mph highway, along with a couple of hills. Trip MPG: 48.5 (does a Snoopy happy dance)! This engine doesn't even have 200 miles on it yet. Sorry didn't think to take a picture..

Maybe your car already has the new software!

Returning 48.5 after a 5 mile trip is really good. Was the car already warm? Did you drive it before you went on the 5 mile trip?

Did a 32 mile trip today and had an average of 50.9 mpg. My speed ranged from 35 to 65 mph. Not too bad considering the car only has 179 miles on it. I'm looking forward to getting broken in.

Aquineas, our cars where ordered and built on the same day, but mine was delivered a week later then yours. It also seems we are both getting good mileage right from the start.

I had driven it a bit before but unfortunately didn't pay attention to the mileage there (truth be told, I'm still figuring this car out). It doesn't take long for cars to warm up in Texas in July though.

Indeed. Did you have any paint defects on your car? I had a couple; the trunk had to be repainted completely due to a part of the paint that looked like it would just peel right off and the body shop had to wet-buff out several scratches. Not sure what is happening to the vehicles between the time they pull off the factory floor and the time they get delivered, but they apparently go through quite an ordeal if the paint gets nicked. Otherwise, my car was flawless.

I had 2 small chips, they were about the size of 2 pencil points each, on the front bumper and a small scratch, about 2 inches long, on the roof. They buffed out the roof area and touched up the chips. There was also some buffing compound left on the paint of the interior side of the doors. They cleaned all those areas up. The body tag with all the trans and tire info was missing. The dealer ordered a new one. The detailing crew tossed out the tag with the door keypad info, they may have also tossed out the body tag. I'm overall happy with the way it was delivered. After the disaster of the first one we were going to buy, the dealer went over it with a fine tooth comb as soon as it came off the truck. I got a call from the sales manager with the issues they found. They want me not to have any surprises when we came to pick it up. A couple of the other that came off the same truck had large chips missing and some big scratches. I think most of that happened after they were loaded for transport.

That could explain it but since your cars twin is also getting really good MPGs right from the start is really encouraging not that I'm unhappy with my results.

Maybe you two can start a seperate topic so your feedback doesn't get lost and we can possibly figure out if your cars are already updated. Hold on the easiest way to tell if you have the newest software release but checking the EV threshold at 62+ MPH can you go higher in EV?

I've had it up to 60ish but not faster; the suburban highway near my house (highway 105 if you're familiar with the Conroe, Texas area) is a hotbed of speed-enforcement activity. This is not an exaggeration: my radar detector in my Genesis lights up something like 90 percent of the time I drive on this highway. Sheriffs, constables, Conroe and Montgomery police... all of them "hunt" this road with alarming regularity. I'll see if I can get it on an interstate tomorrow and let you folks know.

Tomorrow will be my first drive to work with it. I'll try and remember to check the EV threshold when I hit the stretch of road where I can get up to 65 MPH.

Okay the wife had a slushie craving and this gave me ample opportunity to get it back on the road. I set the cruise for 65 on a flat road with about 1/2 battery left, which provided ample opportunity for it to switch down to electric-only mode, and it definitely didn't switch to electric only mode. So there ya' have it! I was a bit aggressive with the accelerator and let the car idle with the AC on at Sonic, and trip mileage was 38.9.

65 MPH highway trip from Thursday. Having the wind behind me helped

null_zps3aa519c2.jpg

Here are a few trips from Friday/Saturday. Overall from Friday to Sunday we averaged just over 58 MPG. It was holding on to 60+ until having to use the AC on Sunday while driving in pouring rain. That even included some short trips across town on the highway which only returned low 50s MPG.

Yippee I'm finally back in the 40 MPG long term average club.

A6C719C8-6AC0-4B84-B0D0-E477EA069C8E-759

It only took 1400 miles after our road trip knocked it down to 38 MPG. It ticked up this morning half way to work before getting on the interstate which knocked in down 0.1 again. After few miles charging the HVB and returning 43+ MPG instant it went back up and is hopefully now there to stay.

Mine went down to 42.5 after our trip and is up to 43.2, still need to gain .3 to be where it was before our trip.

Today I didnt feel like playing the game, and only got 47.7

Wait what? ONLY47.7??? LOL, thats still 3 MPG above what I normally got. Something is wrong with this car, its getting EPA!
