corncobs Report post Posted June 5, 2013 Not sure why on my back from the airport I was barely able to crack 40 MPG on the instant gauge at 65 MPH. Maybe because I left her in the parking garage overnight by herself. ;-) Anyway here the trip summary which is further proof that my daily commute is very hybrid friendly. gadgetguy Report post Posted June 5, 2013 Ok so I see all these Happy posts and I am glad I can add my own lol. I went a totally different route this morning that was 75% city and 25% highway but where the highway speed limit was 55 so I could maintain 60-62 w/o obstructing traffic. The drive is about 4 miles shorter 15 minutes longer which the time could probably be dropped some if I left a little earlier and didn't get stopped at every light. I left the house with the battery about 75%,ICE was cold and the temp was 61 so no A/C and windows cracked. Very pleasant drive this morning. Also keep in mind I have my tire pressure set to 37 psi cold. :shift: :happy feet:  This route shows potential for even better mpg once I adjust to the drive and I do think I could knock a little time off as well. I am going to take this route in tomorrow and Friday and see how it fairs. 3 Riggo, hybridbear and rjent reacted to this
corncobs Report post Posted June 5, 2013 Now that I have found that there is MPG display for trip 2 I can section off my daily commute. Here is the intermediate result after the city driving and before entering the interstate. Final trip result was 49.2 MPG. 2 gadgetguy and rjent reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted June 5, 2013 Happy right now with hovering around 42. Its a bit better than the 10 got on the same trip, and still adjusting to the car. This morning I just set the cruise and relaxed for a good portion of the trip, which has increased to 37 miles from the usual 34. Also had the defrost going so the AC was most likely on too. Last night on the trip home, 46.7 WOOHOO! Never did I see that in the other car on any trip like this. 5 Da0ne, gadgetguy, fusionTX and 2 others reacted to this

acdii Report post Posted June 5, 2013 Its consistent! That is the biggest relief. And that is why at this point, I really dont care if I dont get more than 43 MPG on average, because it GETS 43 MPG on average, not 34 one trip, 44 the next, 36 the next, 32 the next, etc. :) :happy feet: :shift: :worship: :yahoo: Now that the SCV is working, 100% thrilled with it. 2 gadgetguy and corncobs reacted to this

Guardian_Bob Report post Posted June 5, 2013 (edited) So I drove "badly" (fast acceleration, somewhat hard braking due to people on bikes) and got some of the best numbers I've had yet. Not sure why. acdii Report post Posted June 5, 2013 So when you had your old car acdii did you ever have weather like it is now or was it a lot colder?I drove it in warmer weather down in Florida, and could not get what I am getting now! Adding the grill cover did help it get up to 38 once or twice in the really cold weather though, so going to make sure I make another set for this one before winter comes around. kuzzi Report post Posted June 5, 2013 (edited) Same story, different day. Started with AC at 85F, power draw never crossed the 2nd hash mark. After the power draw went below the first hash I lowered temp by 5 degrees and power draw remained the same, again, I was comfortable. Same traffic as always, never really getting above 60mph unless I'm on the beltway. Stop and go on 45. I pulled into gas station with 3 miles to empty and was greeted with this for the trip. I like the consistency. Then after fillup of 12.125 gallons, I uploaded info to Fuelly and had to gun it to merge with traffic three times but EV+ helped to alleviate any bad results and managed to cruise for a little ways too. This was the reading when I finally got home from the gas station. Fun Fact: As I was pulling into the garage, I could hear the gasoline sloshing around in the tank. acdii Report post Posted June 5, 2013 Oh ok, well that's good to know. So hopefully the other car really was just a lemon.Thinking back, YEP! I was thinking about it on the way home, the temp is 58* and raining, and I remember driving in very similar weather here when I had the other car and could barely crack 36, if that, and this one is 41, 42, and 39, I had 3 stops, pick up the kids, stop at the dealer, and then home. The trip from the inlaws to the dealer was the lowest only because majority of the drive is uphill. The other two very much where I expected it to be in this weather, so Yep Me be very satisfied! Side note, the dealer informed me that my old 2010 has been wrecked, it was involved in a 5 car pile up just up the road when a tech took it on an evaluation drive before they put it up for sale. He was in a line of cars at a light when someone plowed into the car behind him, which then plowed into him, and pushed him into another car. Really sad to hear that too, it was a good car. I dont know what they will do with it, but that really sucks. I'm just glad they had it hiding away.
gadgetguy Report post Posted June 6, 2013 (edited) Good morning fellow FFH fanatics lol... Hope everyone is well today. My drive :shift: home yesterday was a bit different since I was at our Downtown Nashville campus so this was all interstate but it was rush hour so speeds ranged from stop and go (or coasting the best I could) to 75 mph. Not bad.. This is my commute this morning which I took the same route I took yesterday that yielded 50.1. This morning when I left the house ICE was warm, temp was 67 but it was lightly raining and I had the A/C on. Yesterday was no rain and no A/C. So I can only assume the weather and A/C contributed to the lower mpg. Hopefully tomorrow it will not be raining and I can duplicate yesterday's environment/results. Still this is not bad by any means!! Posting these results :camera: as we all do never gets old to me lol. My lifetime (which was reset at 5176 which was my first oil change) has climbed to 40.9. When I reset it at 5176 it was 38.7 so I am definitely on track to a better overall lifetime number. One thing that this car has done for me personally is it has really calmed me down on the road, lowered my stress level and allowed me to enjoy :) driving again! When I hit a traffic jam I say "oh well I will get some decent mpg" and just lean back and enjoy the ride! I do miss at times having some real HP under my right foot as I have always been somewhat of a performance enthusiast but that doesn't last long. As soon as I look back at the mpg average and I pass a gas station with gas at $3.29 a gallon it makes me very happy to be cruising in the best looking, best driving hybrid around! Oh and this car has some decent get up and go, its no slouch when you need it. Happy Hybriding!!!! :shift: :happy feet: Edited June 6, 2013 by gadgetguy 2 keybman and hybridbear reacted to this

I feel like I should give you the grille cover back now...Even when it has been hot out here I've kept it on. So far it's never been warm enough to need to take it off. I'll have to watch on our trip across Canada when we're driving for hours on the freeway without the ICE shutting off but I don't expect any issues because there's so much air that still flows through. I think we should just ban hybridbear from posting in this thread. It makes me want to pull my hear out because I can't achieve those #s :rant2: and I bet I'm not alone ! lol :shift:Hey!! ;) maybe I have someone pushing like this :shoppingcart_: or pulling like this :dogwalk: Fun Fact: As I was pulling into the garage, I could hear the gasoline sloshing around in the tank.Did you see my post in the topic about tank size about how hearing the gas sloshing got my wife and me all paranoid?? Haha it was rather amusing once we figured out what it was making the noise One thing that this car has done for me personally is it has really calmed me down on the road, lowered my stress level and allowed me to enjoy :) driving again! It has really lowered my stress behind the wheel and even though it might take me longer to get places I arrive more relaxed and I enjoy the ride. After having owned Saabs in the past with turbos and then the Honda Accord Hybrid that had 255 or so horsepower I don't find that I miss it very much, and I definitely don't miss buying gas every week or paying for premium in the Saabs. And now with our gas prices around $4/gal I'm even happier. 2 gadgetguy and acdii reacted to this
