OK, maybe the Flex isnt as impressive as teh FFH, but, you still have to admire getting nearly 16 MPG pulling a 4000# horse trailer! :) Thats better than the F150 did when it was empty!

 

Oh and for Hybridbear, its those "magic" covers that doing it for you! LOL

Respect 16 MPG towing 4000# that is better than my wife's V6 Explorer just moving itself. :-)

I have no idea how you are able to pull these high MPG # on these "short mile" trips. Your numbers are absolutely exceptional.

Agreed this heat wave in nyc got me only pulling 41 mpg all my trips with a/c on auto

Yep... the hot weather and AC can definitely make a difference.

 

Driving home from in-laws the other night, only about 73 degrees so went without AC:

Quite a difference from driving out to lunch at the office yesterday, where it was sunny/93 degrees and I cranked the AC:

However the morning commutes are now at the perfect temp for great MPG (and lifetime has now notched up to 48.6 on display):

This is a trip home from the other side of Nashville after we went to a car show. Great numbers considering 80% was interstate 60-75 mph!

Interesting that the trip with more EV miles actually had lower MPG. That means that the ICE burned more fuel in the time that it was on during that trip

 

Below is the elevation profile. The long uphill is right after crossing the river from Minneapolis into St Paul. That long uphill also resulted in a 6 min bar on the graph on the computer showing only around 20 MPG as the ICE was running for that entire climb. It looks like about a 75 foot difference between beginning and ending elevation. This might explain the 61 MPG going up and 65 MPG coming down back home

Had to do a lot of driving around today which was approx 30% city and 70% highway. Thought this was again decent considering the highway miles at speeds of 60 to 75 mph.

Had 2 MTE at the end of this drive so I had to get gas which I thought was not too bad again considering the amount of highway I drive.

Until I pumped gas and then did my manual calculation which left me a little disappointed and puzzled. I did the same as the last time by going 2 clicks which added approx. another .5 gallons. The only difference is the gas station. Next fill up I'm going to go back to this same station and the same pump which should yield identical results. I still don't think there should be this big of a discrepancy in gallons used. This killed my average down to 36.4 from the 40.6 the car shows. Don't mind the hand written (scribbled) information on the receipt I was just jotting it down so I didn't have to go look at the pic right way to compare.

Trust the car and not the gas pump :-)

I like to think that measures the right amount of fuel it actually used and that you are actually overfilling the gas tank. Maybe with the cap less fill system the leave more room to avoid spills which could technically allow for more than 13.5 gallons.

I would tend to agree considering that all of my other fill ups have been close but that's such a big discrepancy. I'll see next fill up, I'm going to try to get back to the same station.

Trip home from a friend's birthday dinner tonight, trip there was 44.6mpg with the AC on, no AC on the way home.

Here's the fun part, reset the trip right as we got on to the 75mph zone, set eco cruise and took this at the stop light just after the off ramp so the trip timer

as about an extra 30 seconds on it. But it is proof of 40+mpg at 80mph for a sustained time on the interstate.

Commute this morning inched past my old record. If I assume that my return trip will be my recent average (38-39 MPG) then I'll be averaging 47-48 MPG daily! Considering how little I drive in EV mode, I couldn't be happier.

I like to think that measures the right amount of fuel it actually used and that you are actually overfilling the gas tank. Maybe with the cap less fill system the leave more room to avoid spills which could technically allow for more than 13.5 gallons.

This is why I stop at the first click. Then again I also use the same pump on each fill for consistency. When you use a Scan Guage for trip computing, it tells you stop at the first shut off for at least 3 tanks to build your averages. Works too, as the calculations compared to the trip on the SG were within .1 MPG. Since then I just stop at the first click, 1/2 gallon really doesnt mean much other than screwing with your mind.

I beg to differ. Half a gallon on a puny 13.5 gallon tank means something, and the car manual tells you do do an extra click.

The tank size is one of my biggest complaints about the Fusion.

 

You can't argue with miles traveled vs gallons pumped for computing tank average. The trip computer is just an estimate, usually on the optimistic side.

Is Scan Gauge worth the cost for the information it gives? I have been on the fence about getting one because I don't see it adding a tremendous amount of added info/value.

It is more accurate, and once you have all the codes programmed, can give much more information than the dash ever will, but for the average person, no, not worth the cost. Only for fanatical drivers like me and a few others would it be worth it. I like it because I can switch it between vehicles for different uses, of course it breaks the trip settings when you do and have to recalibrate it, but when you dont have a trans temp gauge, or other gauges, it comes in really handy when towing.

This morning I realized I had left my laptop and backpack at one of the fire stations in the Klein/Tomball area after staffing the day before. So I headed in the complete opposite direction of the office to pick that up first taking Spring-Steubner. I did not get a photo of it but it was an 8 mile trip on small slow roads with few stops. Received 50.0mpg readout.

 

After that I decided to take Kyukendahl, 1960, and Bammel-N Houston to the beltway. Almost the same type of roads as earlier and I got this result.

My hypothesis after the last tank is that the tank design is causing gas pumps to shut off early and we're never actually filling the tank all the way. That is why our cars are really out of gas after only using 10-12 gallons while C-Max owners are able to drive 13+ gallons and their DTE hasn't yet hit 0 miles. I believe this shows that the DTE is fairly accurate and that our cars are never getting a full tank. But this discussion belongs in one of the threads about tank size, and not MPG Happy Talk

Well I went to the airport this morning but taking the back roads to drop something of at a friends house. Not too much city more highway 45-55 MPH.

So far so good! First trip was to my office, and I had gunned it to get in front of a dump truck so right after I took that 47 on trip 2 it dropped like a rock :) I got a little over 40 for that trip, then my trip to pick up the kids, 43, trip to home from there, 43. Quite pleased with it. Now to figure out the SCV lockout.

 

so far 74 miles and 40.9 are EV.
