Shiny black center console and scratches

Recommended Posts

I've noticed that the exterior piano black pieces show up as very scratched in the sunlight. Has anyone had success repairing the scratches? I waxed the car a few days after we got it, including the piano black exterior trim pieces but they still got scratched. It will soon be time to wax again.

That's why I had the dealer replace that whole trim piece on mine .. I've been driving around with plastic wrap on mine ever since (I made holes for the cup holders and buttons). I ordered Z-14 from Zanio to hopefully remove scratches that will show up .... It'll be here tomorrow.

How did you get them to replace it? What necessitated that?

I saw the scratches when I picked it up (or a week after), so asked them to fix it ... They gave me a week to drive it and identify issues :) 5 weeks later I'm still compiling a new list !

Mine had scratches from some idiot driving the car to the dealership I purchased from (via dealer trade) with cuff links or buttons on a long sleeve shirt. I was upset about the issue. Worse come to worse I can replace it.

I used a little polish and got the scratches to hide a bit but they are still there. I sprayed some sealant on all the pieces as a minor layer of protectant. Since it'll mostly be just me driving I can be careful. The sun shining directly on it shows swirl marks. The best thing to do is to be careful. I already told my gf to be careful with these trim pieces.

I actually like the piano black trim pieces, I just wished Ford did something to protect them better. Hopefully there will be a protective film kit to come out.

I had my clear bra installer custom fit a piece there (cup holder area). Looks great and it will never get scratched...

I got my tint done yesterday and I'm going to have him install the paint protection film on the cup holder area as well! How much did they charge you and can you post a picture? I want to see how much it covers and how it looks. Thanks!

Oh, welcome to the forum!

Thanks. No charge as I had him do it as part of my usual package. He's done several of my cars (G35C, M45S, GTR, and now the Fusion)....Picture attached, but you really can't see it. It goes full length from the armrest and around the parking break switch.....it's really dirty so don't let that fool you.

I covered the piano black with real carbon fiber - great kit - detailed and even the dealer was impressed

I ordered some of the Zaino plastic polish and will see how it works. There is a lot of this kind of plastic on the exterior of the Flex and it scratches up quickly.

I use many of the Zaino products but have not tried their plastic polish. Let us know how it does!

I haven't used my Z-14 yet, but have a few tiny scratches on the door trims. I'll post here once I give it a try as well.

Those plastic parts scratch very easily. I found a few already just from the towels.

you found a kit, or just cut the material to match? how'd you adhere it to the plastic?

I found a product that will take out all small scratches on our piano trim. It's called Novus and they sell a kit with three different plastic polishes. The #2 polish is really all you need to take out small scratches. Amazon sells it for $6.80 and free shipping if you are a prime member.

My door trim now looks better than when I bought it.

I used my Z-14 and am very pleased with the results. There are still a few scratches that didn't come out, but most of them did! I used it on the piano black interior surfaces as well as the exterior door trims.

I attempted to repair the plastic screen on my Futaba transmitter with Z14, but its too deeply scuffed, it looks like it will only take out very fine scratches.

I saw some very light scratches on the chrome piece above my driver's side door. My question is, is this real chrome or a plastic made to look like chrome. I don't want to buy the wrong product to try to get the scratches out.

I figured I'd post here even though it's not about the center console, so as to not start yet another new topic.

Most chrome these days is real chrome over plastic. They found a way to plate plastic so chrome can stick to it. Some chrome trim is layered though, there is a film base, chrome strip and plastic covering. I don't recall seeing this on the Fusion though. You can lightly buff up the chrome covered plastic, but the plastic covered chrome will get worse if you try to buff it.

Most of this thread has addressed the remedies for fine scratches.

Any ideas of what to put on these plastic trim pieces to add a layer of protection to keep ithe black plastic trim from getting scratched to begin with?

Thanks

Someone in these Forums suggested to have a tint shop add a custom cut layer of clear plastic over it.
