GrySql Report post Posted January 18, 2013 I am worried about scratching the shiny black console cap aft of the transmission selector and around the cup holders.Any ideas? I tried a extra iPad screen protector sheet but it wouldn't bend around the contours properly.Presently, there are very few aftermarket items for this car. GrySql Report post Posted January 18, 2013 I'm not crazy about the shiny black look.I agree, it looks okay but don't think it will wear okay - but I'll hold off on the duct tape for a while longer. :)Maybe some dash trim kits will be out soon, or something like that. Klstaack Report post Posted January 18, 2013 I never would have thought about this. But I guess I'm the only person in my car...I don't have children so the car will show little signs of wear over the years ...the car I traded in had over 100k miles and it still looked like it did when I got it. Anyways, the Prius had shiny cup holders that you had to flip open to use and other shiny parts. I never noticed any scratches. Trust me I would have notice I'm very OCD with thing like that. I can't recall getting any dings in that shiny area on the Prius either, and I had the travel mug every day... so unless something sharp gouges into that area, let's hope this is pretty resilient with everyday use. Same here. A cup, phone, or something was in the cup holders everyday.
acdii Report post Posted January 19, 2013 Keep it clean with microfiber, and wax it with a non abrasive wax(or Zaino).
B25Nut Report post Posted January 19, 2013 I have always just used water to wash the exterior of my cars and a slightly damp cloth and a vacuum cleaner on everything in the interior. They look almost like new after 120K on them. So far the shiny black plastic in my Fusion still looks like new after 3400 miles. I have noticed the mention of OCD several times. Could that be another thing most of us have in common? I know I have it. My wife reminds me every day. 1 hybridbear reacted to this

elle Report post Posted March 19, 2013 I now have a couple of key scratches on the shiny black center console after a hasty trip last week with too much stuff transported in the front seat. Any thoughts on how to remove them? I'm terrified of the idea of trying to buff them out. There has to be something else I can do. More importantly, there has to be some sort of film or something you can put over this area to protect it. Please tell me someone makes something like this. wmpwi Report post Posted March 19, 2013 (edited) I'm kind of worried about the finish as well and thought something like this might be a solution I can live with: http://www.carid.com/2013-ford-fusion-wood-grain-dash-kits/item-4384910.html or http://www.wooddash.com/category/FORD_Dash_Kits_FUSION as long as it's not too gaudy. Ouch, sorry to hear that :( Can you share some pics? How bar are they? Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to your question, but hoping to learn from your experience and avoid scratching mine ... elle Report post Posted March 19, 2013 They aren't horrible, but definitely there. I knew it wouldn't last forever. Am thinking maybe a bit of clear nail polish, carefully applied would help.
acdii Report post Posted March 19, 2013 NO DONT DO THAT! The acetone in the nail polish would destroy the plastic. I have used plastic polish to clean up the plastic on the doors, which is pretty much the same material on the center console.http://www.meguiars.com/en/professional/products/m1008-clear-plastic-polish/ Give this or something like this a try. Zaino makes a polish, which is what I used, called Z-PC, and they also make one specifically for plastic.http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Z-14&Category_Code=Zaino&Product_Count=17 1 neod192 reacted to this

If only I had a scratch on the center console, I managed to scratch the rear passenger door on a concrete pillar in the parking garage at work a couple of weeks ago, most of it buffed out but still a couple of deeper scratches to live with. Was bummed at the time but now just accept it as one of those things and moving on. Life is to short to worry.

At the end of the day, it's still a car, it's transportation-- nice transportation, but life is indeed too short to get ulcers over stuff like this! acdii Report post Posted March 20, 2013 At least you didnt find out a year after getting the car that it's entire passenger side had been repainted. Talk about a WTF moment! What caught my eye was a fisheye on the right front fender, and thought, well thats odd to see on a factory finish. So then I started looking at the rest of the car, and sure enough found the tape lines inside the door jambs from a respray. Had it not been for that one fisheye, I never would have known. acdii Report post Posted March 20, 2013 They did, except for that one fisheye on top of the right fender. I found it when I was claying the car and getting it prepped for polish. Color match was perfect, which leads me to believe it was done before it arrived at the dealership. The tape lines around the door jambs was the only tell, and had the prepped it to the inside of the jambs where the trim is, I never would have been able to find out. I took a photo of the fisheye, but it doesnt show up, have to see it at just the right angle and light level, but here is the tape line. Great color match. Cant wait until it warms up to where I can clean and shine this puppy up.
neod192 Report post Posted April 23, 2013 Thanks; I will try one of those! Hey, did you try to take out those scratches? Did it work? Mine already got scratched up and the dealer replaced it ... I have to put something on it to prevent scratches on the new one ... That Z-14 looks promising if you already have scratches, but what should I use to prevent them? Same thing? fusionTX Report post Posted April 23, 2013 On my recent trip to Florida, an 18 wheeler had a blowout right in front of me. Rubber flew everywhere including hitting the windshield. It sounded like a bomb going off. No damage to windshield, but after washing the car, there are a couple of spots on front hood. Hardly noticeable, but I know they are there. It happens... hybridbear Report post Posted May 16, 2013 I've noticed that the exterior piano black pieces show up as very scratched in the sunlight. Has anyone had success repairing the scratches? I waxed the car a few days after we got it, including the piano black exterior trim pieces but they still got scratched. It will soon be time to wax again. acdii Report post Posted May 16, 2013 a good plastic polish can clean them up. The Flex has them all around the windows, same thing happens with scratches.
