Well went to work today. 22.3 miles one way. When I got there it said 44.3 mpg and .4 gallons used. The temperature was 24 when I left and when I got to work it had fallen to 18. On the return, got just over 40 and used about .5 gallons. Less than 1 gallon to and from work according to the computer. In my Mercury Montego it was at least 1 gallon each way as I was averaging about 22.5 MPG. I have 415 evmiles and 1082 total miles. The long term average was up once again to 37.3, and the outside temperature was 37 when I left work and 30 when I got home.

The mileage keeps slowly increasing. As of today I'm at 37.7 MPG on the overall since I got the car. Today its around 38F so about the warmest temperature that I've dirven it in. Stopped by work today and got 49 MPG on the way and 37.8mpg on the return. Very windy here today rainy and warmer than it has been in quite a while.

Well the past two days have been near 60F. It's amazing how much snow has gone away. The long term average is now up to 38.5MPG. It really leaped up with the warmer temperatures. Unfortunately tomorrow Winter will once again raise its ugly head.

I took mine on a highway trip and knocked it down to 38 on this tank. 36 one way 31 on the return.

 

BTW, notice the yellow light on under the display? The cross traffic system went offline too.

I'm confused about your post. The light I see is hill start assist, which I think means a breaking load is applied to the drive train. I noticed I had inadvertantly set mine to on the other day. Was this intentional on your part?

Nope thats the cross traffic/BLIS failed warning light. Pic isnt very clear, but on the left is off, and left bottom is the signal symbol. Hills assist is actually right next to that light. If you want to see all the dash lights, press and hold the left OK button on your steering wheel as you turn the car on. It will enter engineering diagnostic mode. Scroll through the left display and you will come across the dash test that lights them all up.

Well had to take a trip to Albany for my job. My long term average is now 39.3 MPG, it's never been reset. The trip was 576 miles and I averaged 41.3 MPG for the trip. When I left this morning it was 39F in Albany and when I got home it was 18F. So far still pleased with the mileage for being winter. Got into some snow and icy conditions on the way home car handled it just fine. Love those studded tires.

Just thought I'd keep everybody informed. Mileage peaked at 39.5MPG long term average. It's fallen back a bit to 39.0MPG. Seems the -7 morning lows and +7 highs with snow covered roads and no ability to use cruise due to snow covered and icy roads the average has dropped off a little. Supposed to warm up a little next week and maybe the mileage will go back up. Trips to work that were averaging in the mid to upper 40's are down in the 30's. Trips home that were in lower 40's are now in mid 30's. Spring isn't to far away I hope.

We have been wondering how the car handles in snow. Up till now we have always had AWD cars or Explorers. I don't think we can use studded tires in Illinois so I probably will stick with the original tires. Around here, Chicago suburb, the streets get cleared really quick and haven't had any mealy snow for some years. I keep telling my wife that the weight of the battery will help the back end in the snow. Hope I'm right.

The car handles GREAT in snow! The 18" Goodyear LS2 grips great, doing 45-50 tracks straight, stops good, very little slippage.

Just an update on how things are going. I now have just over 4000 miles and the long term average has fallen a bit to 38.7 MPG. I figure that it must be weather realted. Heavy snow and below zero temperatures definately impact this cars mileage. But still getting 38.7 MPG with studded snows, extreme cold, and snow covered roads I don't feel is too bad. In my old Montego I would be getting around 21 or 22. This car has the same comfort level and so far has handled the snow wonderfully. Well its off to work. Hope you all have a good day.

Just an update on how the car is doing. The long term average is now up to 38.8 and slowly climbing. This week the paved roads finally started to clear off a bit, although the dirt roads are still snow covered, and I'm back to getting over 44MPG on my way to work and over 38MPG on the way home. During the recent bitter cold and snowy spell mileage dropped off to about 40 on the way to work and 32 on the way home. Hopefully with spring just around the corner the mileage will continue to improve. Now that gas is over $4 per gallon I've had many friends inquiring as to performance and mileage and all I do is show them the gages and they walk away saying they are going to have to consider one. After a ride they're sold.

Currently the long term average is 38.7MPG with about 6600 miles on the odometer,almost 2500 electric miles. yesterday we had more snow and the temperature on the way to work was 5F. Very cold windy and snowy. We've had about 10 inches of snow over the last week and more expected today and this weekend. I was hoping that now that spring had arrived the winter would go away and I could get the studded snows off the car but that doesn't appear like it will happen any time soon. Very pleased with the car so far.

Well it's time for another update. Took the car to the dealer yesterday to get it fitted for a spare tire. I have to drive on dirt roads and if past history is a predictor I'll need a spare. Talked about getting a full sized spare but it wouldn't fit in the well. He's ordering a doughnut spare that is the same size as the one he took out of a 2013 Fusion with 17 inch tires. He feels for a short term spare it should work. Well with the weather warming up the past few days the long term average mileage has jumped up to 38.9. I now have over 7300 miles and almost 2800 electric and 400 regen. Can anyone expkain the regen miles? Yesterday we went to our favorite diner for breakfast and went about 8 miles and according to the computer got 74.9 mpg. Now not to be deceiving its all down hill and the ice barely ran. Coming home obviously its all up hill and got 34.5. Still the average for the trip is 54.7. Soon I hope to get the studded snows taken off and get the 17 inch michelins back on. Unfortunately they are predicting a return to snowy weather for the first part of the upcoming week. To tell the truth I'm getting tired of this long winter.

Regen miles are an approximation of the miles of EV driving you added through the regenerative braking. In the city you will see more regen miles than highway due to the stop and go nature. This is where the value of having a high brake score becomes visible. If you have 9.5 regen miles and a 95% brake score then you know that you lost .5 miles of EV driving in energy that was not captured during braking but that was converted to heat and wasted because a 100% brake score would have given you 10.0 regen miles in that same drive

OR lost by deceleration during coasting. My BS is low mainly because as soon as I take my foot off the gas the car slows down, so if I start braking at the point I would normally brake in my other car, I am stopped LONG before the stop sign, or if I try to capture as much as I can before it stops, I am in the intersection. I never know just when to apply the brakes it varies so much. If there was a coach in the 10, it would be at 100% for sure.

 

Usually on the roads I drive, when I get to the stop ahead sign, that is when I would apply brakes, if I do that in the 13, I am slowed down to about 25 MPH 100' from the intersection, but in the 10, it times out perfectly. Other times though, if I wait until I get about 100' past that sign, and apply the brakes, then I am into the intersection in the 13, but I have to keep power on past the sign before I brake otherwise the car has slowed down 10 MPH on its own. I found SOC has no affect on it either, if can have a full charge and acts the same way. Then there are times I can hit 100% every time, then slow to make a turn and totally hose the brake score.

As we discussed early on in your '13 learning, I still think your regen/braking is an issue as well as your fuel mixture. My '13 is no different than my '10 was in coasting performance. You should no be decelerating differently in your two FFHs and as has been discussed yours are very different in their behavior. Coasting should be free miles and any energy remaining when the brakes are applied should be available as 100% re-gen.
