New Hybrid

Recommended Posts

Well I ordered my new Fusion Hybrid on October 6. It arrived at the dealer last Wednesday Dec 19. I was supposed to pick it up last Saturday but cancelled because they were predicting 15 inches of snow. Actually got around 8 inches. Scheduled to pick up this afternoon even though they are predicting 18+ of snow for this afternoon and evening. Hope to get it home before the snow starts

Well picked up my new fusion this afternoon, unfortunately by the time the paperwork was completed it was a virtual blizzard. Decided to take the car home instead of taking a drive. It handles the snow real well and the ride is impressive. Have to figure out all the controls though. I'll be reading the manual tonight to try to get more familiar. Like the car ride, handling, and it certainly has enough power to handle the steep snow covered hills.

In case you haven't seen a thread on the subject, you can go to www.motorcraftservice.com and click 'Owner Guides' on the left the get a copy of your owner guide in PDF format... makes it far quicker to Ctl-F and find a specific term of phrase, instead of flipping paper pages.

Well I was doing a little more reading in the manual and was wondering why there was no jacking instructions? Turns out there is no spare tire or jack. Who's brilliant idea was this. The menus are a little difficult to go through. How do you get to the tacometer? Also when I tried to get my Sirius # to set up my account according to the instructions all it did was preset the station. Well a little more reading tonight and maybe I'll figure it out. Oh ya we had 18 inches of snow last night, so I spent the morning plowing out my driveway. Got 85 miles on the car and it says I'm averaging 32.8 MPG. It has Hancook studded tires and the outside temperature is a whopping 19F.

You can get the Tach in the display to the left of the speedometer by adjusting the settings for My View. Since it is a hybrid with a CVT, rpm readings aren't of much use. You are much better off if you have the left display set to Engage. I prefer to have My View set to display Temperature and Range, which I can switch to at any time.

I didn't have to do anything to listen to Sirius XM, and info I've received in the mail indicates Sirius knows my account number, which I assume was set up by my dealer.

Well I now have about 260 miles on the car. Yesterday we got another 6+ of snow and temperature was around 22F. I was driving through the snow before the roads were plowed and I'm now averaging around 35mpg. I have about 105 miles on electric and break score is at 96%. Car runs well in snow, and mileage is still about 12 mpg better than the 06 Montego. hopefully the weather will break and I'll get to drive it in more normal conditions. Since the roads here are very steep I was using the downhill button on the gear shift to hold back the speed. It works great and I like the icon on the dash so you don't forget to turn it off.

Well just to keep this thread going here's an update. Overnight we had another couple of inches of snow. The car now has 696.6 miles and 258.3 ev miles. The weather today went from 17F this morning to about 19F this afternoon. The car is now averaging on the lifetime summary 36.4 MPG. It is creeping up slowly. Remember that I do have 4 studded snow tires not the high mileage tires that came on the car. The ones they took off for the snows were 17inch michelins. Very pleased with the mileage so far. It seems to be going up slowly about .5MPG average everytime I take it out. Like the car.

Sounds like its breaking in nicely. Won't be long you'll be in the 40's and climbing. Hopefully that will be in temperature also!

Especially with soft snow tires! Now I am in a dilemma, I so want my car to get good MPG, but afraid that if I hold onto it much longer I will not be able to recoup anything. I hopefully should know more tomorrow on what is wrong with my car.

Well it was off to work and back today. Approximately 45 miles. I'm still at 36.4 MPG. Didn't gain on the long term average today. Maybe it was the 19F temperatures or the fact that the road has 2-3 inches of mealy snow which is like driving on a sandy beach. When you let up on the gas in this type of snow it feels like I put the brakes on. It's snowing hard right now so I'm hoping they get the road plowed in the morning. Most of the roads were in good shape it was really just the first and last 3-4 miles that has the mealy snow.

Well I had to go to a meeting today and it was interesting. The car now has over 800 miles on it and on the return trip I averaged 50.1 mpg for a 22.3 mile trip. This raised my average mpg to 36.7. It was a little warmer today around 34 F and it wasn't snowing. Mileage is still climbing but slowly since I have never reset the long term average. Just an update.

My wife consistantly gets 50+ on her way to work and back home. We have absolutely no complaints about the car. Including no issues with MFT. It works perfectly.

Went grocery shopping this evening. Got 53.8 on the way to the store and 33.9 on the return. 44.3MPG average for the trip. Not bad for having studded snows all the way around. Temperature was 28F. Long term average now up to 37mpg.
