coach81 Report post Posted October 29, 2012 Will our new '13 FFH come equipped w an engine block heater?
jeff_h Report post Posted October 29, 2012 No I don't believe so, from looking at the ordering sheet that a salesman gave me, the block heater and daytime running lights are things that is only available on Fleet Vehicles. Of course orders going to Canada may be different, this sheet was just for US orders.
Ric Report post Posted October 29, 2012 (edited) I believe the engine block heater is standard. The window sticker for my ordered FFH states "Engine block heater" "No charge" Hope this helps. You can look at my window sticker for the features under my previous post. Edited October 29, 2012 by Ric

expresspotato Report post Posted October 30, 2012 My sticker doesn't have Engine Block Heater for my Canadian Fusion.
Ric Report post Posted October 30, 2012 I was in town today and checked the Fusions at the Ford Dealer. They had three (3) base SE fusions, gasoline. All had the engine block heater. The plug is located on the drivers side fog light area. Strange place for the plug I thought. I never looked at the window stickers and these were not Hybrids. bankyedwards Report post Posted November 11, 2012 that is because you are in Wisconsin simply dropping down to Illinois here in Chicago we don't get engine block heaters.
coach81 Report post Posted November 11, 2012 So no heater for you, Bank? Guess that means I won't get one either....
jeff_h Report post Posted November 11, 2012 Coach your location says Lousiana... you worried about needing a block heater down there???
bankyedwards Report post Posted November 11, 2012 well i don't have my window sticker yet just the VIN. but all the stickers I have looked at in the Chicago area and the couple I test drove in each trim none had a block heater listed. only no charge we had was front license plate as illinois law requires both front and rear plates. coach81 Report post Posted November 12, 2012 If I'm supposed to get one, I want it.... Even if I'll only need it once or twice lol
tombarker13ffh Report post Posted December 22, 2012 Fordparts.com has the engine block heater parts available for order. I think its just the heater itself and then the plug/wire. I assume it xan be fitted to any Fusion, but im not sure on the labor charge as i think the coolant has to be at least partially drained and refilled. ptjones Report post Posted December 23, 2012 The only one that fits is a Wolverine Model 9 $56 on Amazon.
coach81 Report post Posted December 29, 2012 Well if it's anything that I have to install.. you can forget it.. I can barely change a lightbulb :tease:
mainesail55 Report post Posted December 31, 2012 I found this on Edmunds. "Standard only in AK, MN, ND, SD, MT, WI and WY. Other states available via Ford Customer Service Division." 1 coach81 reacted to this
ptjones Report post Posted January 2, 2013 Well if it's anything that I have to install.. you can forget it.. I can barely change a lightbulb :tease: It just sticks on the bottom of oil pan and you just partually remove bottom engine cover and reachin and stick it on. Simple, just find a spot easy to install plug to plugin extension cord.
acdii Report post Posted January 2, 2013 My 2010 has one, but never used it. I used it on my F350 for a couple times, and then got my electric bill. Gas is cheaper even at $4 a gallon.
coach81 Report post Posted January 6, 2013 Really.. it was that much more for your electric bill, how long do you have to keep it plugged in?
tombarker13ffh Report post Posted January 7, 2013 The oil pan heater is different from an engine block heater. The engine block heater is installed directly into the block in place of one of the freeze plugs and heats the coolant in the block, which is particularly useful on diesel motors in cold weather because it helps the motor get to operating temperature very quickly versus a cold start. The oil pan heater would help reduce viscosity of cold oil, allowing less effort by the motors moving parts. I'm wondering which is more beneficial to a hybrid Fusion's FE when the gas motor is used sparingly in city driving or short trips...
acdii Report post Posted January 7, 2013 I had mine on a timer to start at 4AM so it was on for 3 hours. It wasnt cheap, it was 1500 watts. There was only 1 time in the 10 years owning it when I truly needed it, had the truck parked outside in front of the garage and it would not start, plugged it in and four hours later fired up. Parked inside even on the coldest of days never needed it.
coach81 Report post Posted January 7, 2013 Well I don't think I would be using it too much here
B25Nut Report post Posted January 29, 2013 Since most of us have had issues this winter with lower MPG due to the time it takes the ICE to warm the coolant, I think making the engine block heater standard equipment, or at least an option, on all future FFHs would be a good idea. Electricity costs may wash out any dollar gain, but having immediate warm air in the mornings, I feel, would make the system worth it.
FusionDiffusion Report post Posted January 31, 2013 The block heaters they use in cars are a lot smaller than than the 1500W heaters they put in diesel trucks. I would still only use one on a timer to reduce the electric bill. The block heater is too small to provide "immediate heat" but it's more like "short delay heat". I wrote a detailed article about block heaters about a year ago on FFF: http://www.fordfusionforum.com/topic/7355-about-block-heaters/ I don't have a FFH, but my guess would be they use the same size element in all Fusions.
