1800 RPM sweet spot

Recommended Posts

No mater if i'm driving 40 MPH 55 or 60 my RPMs are always just under 2000 (per the gauge in enlighten mode) has my vehicle determined my driving style & found that 1800+ RPM is about right or is this just where the hybrids like to run ? (the RPMs do fluctuate but the RPM gauge seems to gravitate to just under 2000 no matter my speed so this isn't a problem but a question)

I'll try to remember to watch mine to see if it's around the same. One thing I have noticed is that with the ICE running, the car gets much better MPG when it's going along at like 40-45 up to maybe 50-55 or so; compared to driving slowly like 30 or 35. I was always under the impression by all the articles & stuff I read that driving the speed limit, or slowly, got you better MPG than speeding around. But that doesn't seem to be the case according to how the MPG gauge fluctuates as I'm driving around. I still tend to go slower as opposed to faster just so that I can get in EV whenever possible.

Another thing I noticed is that the Ford engineer's were correct. I get better MPG by accelerating up to speed with ICE, then kicking into EV; compared to trying to accelerate slowly to stay in EV and then having the battery almost depleted by the time I'm up to speed, so then the ICE has to kick in.

At low speeds when the ICE is running its about 12-1300 but then it's usually charging the HVB also. The ICE runs about 1/2 the time at 30 mph and 30 mpg which is a lot lower mpg than at 50 mph. When it goes to EV you get 99.9 plus so you average 50 to 60 mpg. This is almost a constant speed engine so that's where the most efficiency is, 13-1900 rpm.

I'm not sure about this because I haven't tested it, but my guess is you'll see the same RPM at just about any reasonable cruising speed because of the e-CVT transmission in these cars. Like I said, don't quote me on this, but I bet the RPMs don't vary much at cruising speed.
