rejester Report post Posted January 31, 2011 2011 Fusion, 3.0L engine. The car has had a engine whine when cold (it's been in 30's here in St. Louis) for the entire time I've owned it, I now have 1200 miles on it. When it warms up after 15-20min it'll go away. Only noticable city driving when in lower gears and it's shifting a lot. It's for sure the engine and not the tranny. I can sit in neutral/park and rev the engine around 1500 rpm, or I can hear it at idle around 750 rpm. It's loud enough to be extreemly annoying for me since it's a new car I'd expect better. My guess is something along the belt, tensioner, etc. I mentioned it to my dealership and got the "oh well sure, all cars make noises before they are warmed up". I plan on keeping at this. Anyone have similar? Ryan
modular Report post Posted January 31, 2011 You may take a look at the serpentine belt tensioner.
RagingItalian Report post Posted February 1, 2011 Rejester, I had a 2010 Fusion SE 3.0 that had a number of issues, one of the being exactly the whine you describe, but mine did it even when the outside temperature was warmer. I went back and forth with the dealer and Ford "screw the" Customer Care on this and the other issues for 6 months with the same "its normal" BS. I know other cars don't do it. As for the serpentine belt tensioner, that is a problem with the 4cyls, I had them look at it anyway, was told its the overhead cam on the 6cyls, it may very well be but its not right. My car also had the transmission slip problem and after speaking with an attorney I just decided to get rid of it at a $$ loss but please post if you ever do get it resolved, I would be interested in what it really is.
