Engine Light On - Bad Ignition Coil

Recommended Posts

Thank you Allen for the feedback. I guess this is good news since you have not hear of a coil failure until mine cropped up yesterday. Maybe it is not chronic, but I would have to assume that the bad ignition coil was made from the same lot of ignition coils that the other three (3) came from that are still installed on my engine. This does not give me a warm and comfortable feeling. On a positive note, if another one goes out, I can always drive with just the electric motor on and stay below 45mph and get myself to a dealership. Thanks again!

With one coil out, the ICE should continue to run. If the ICE shuts down, you could only get to the dealership on EV if it's within 1/2 to 1 mile.

Yep, the same thing happened to me. They replaced it and everything has been good since. I have driven a few thousand miles since and no issues.

Have any of you 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid forum members had issues with ignition coil failures? My 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid has only 23,000 miles on it an I experience the dreaded "engine light on" notification. Turned out to be a bad ignition coil after the dealership diagnostic computer pinpointed the problem. I hope this is not a chronic problem. If one (1) of the four (4) has already gone bad, when will the remaining three (3) go bad? Any feedback would be appreciated.
