2006 Fusion SEL I4 Without Premium Stereo

Recently I posted a question about any differences that might exist between the regular, single disc stereo and the Premium, CD6 model. At the time, I was deciding whether to buy a Canadian model 2006 SEL which only had the single disc unit installed.

 

Well I took the plunge and bought it, and should be driving it by the end of the week. Now I am looking into what it will take to plug my iPod into the factory deck. I keep seeing that this model should have been equipped with the Premium head unit. Oddly enough, I've found pictures of a similar '06 SEL at a Toronto dealership that is also missing the Premium sound system. SO does anyone from North of the border know what gives? My car was built at the beginning of the model year and sold in February 2006, could it be that Ford initially offered the Premium stereo as an option for the SEL?

 

I am looking to buy the PIE FRD04-POD/S so I can plug in my iPod and control it through the factory controls. In the worst case if it doesn't work I can pick up the Premium unit at the wreckers. It will bother me until I figure out why there is no Premium unit in my car. The used car dealership claims they ran the VIN and it indicated the installed stereo is what was originally installed. As Bill Shatner would say, "weird... or what!"

The 2006 Fusion did not come with stereos equipped with an aux input for an ipod, that only became available in 2007.
