Outside Temp not correct

Recommended Posts

Hope I got this in the right place. I have a 2009 Fusion SEL 3.0. This has happened twice so far. I'm in nebraska where it is cold weather right now. Got in the car last night and started it. The

outside temp was reading 58. I was parked in a parking garage and guessed that the temp was below 20. I hit the auto setting with the inside temp to 80. The display came on and said A/C was

on. I shut a/c off and turned on heat. After a few minutes of driving the temp was reading 18. Has this happened to anyone? I don't know if this a problem that should be fixed or if it is a common

occurance. Hope someone can shed some light on the subject.

The reading won't be accurate the minute you start the car. The car usually takes a few minutes to read the temperature. Leave the auto alone, don't change it to heat because it won't warm up any faster in heat instead of auto.

The outside temp doesn't control the inside Auto climate control - there is an internal temp sensor for that. As FFHDriver pointed out the blower won't come on immediately because it would only be blowing hot air - it waits a few minutes for the heater to warm up. It's normal (and a good feature - you don't want cold air blowing on you).

The outside temp isn't accurate until you've been driving above 20 mph for a minute or so. Let's say your car has been sitting with a warm engine in the sun - the temp reported by the sensor will be way too high until you start moving. You just have to ignore the outside temp when you first start it. Either way it won't affect the climate control.
