Recommendations please?

Recommended Posts

i just got a used 2009 SEL V6 FWD with the sports package and i believe it still has the original tires on it (goodyear eagle-r?). Theres 26,000 miles on it, but the tires are still in pretty good shape. I live in NJ and we just got nailed with the first snowstorm of the winter about a week ago but i wasnt around cuz i was away for the holidays so i didnt drive in it. I was wondering how bad these tires are in the snow? Theyre all season tires arent they?

Does it pay to get winter tires? I dont really have a long commute to work and i dont do alot of driving when the weathers that bad, i try to stay inside when it is. I was just curious how bad these tires are because i do make some trips up to pennsylvania on weekends where the backroads dont get plowed as well as the main roads here in jersey do.

If you suggest winter tires, which ones do you recommend? If you can give me the top of the line models and then some models that are reasonably priced and work well?

any feedback is greatly appreciated

Michelin, Michelin, Michelin.

I haven't bought "mud & snow" tires in almost 40 years (for passenger vehicles). "All-season" radials by Michelin have served well in every kind of road condition the central US has to test a driver. RWD, FWD, cars, vans, etc. Tried a couple of other brands, but have never been as well satisfied.

Just now going into the first full winter with the '10 Fusion, so I don't have a lot of experience with the factory-provided tires, yet. But I expect them to continue to provide traction and stability in snow and rain, as well as on dry pavement.

There are probably other brands which can provide the same kind of satisfaction. I just don't feel the need to search for them. If future experience should mandate a change, then I'll be here asking the same questions as you.

I've also been looking into new tire for my 06 SEL V6 (225/50/17). I think I'm leaning to the Continental DWS tires. They have great reviews, up there with the

Michelins and are an all season with great snow rating, plus are one of the cheaper tires at about $120 a piece on tirerack. I do like the Michelin options, but

they would cost over $225 more for a set of 4 in a ultra high performance all seaon tire.
