Aftermarket audio with SYNC?

Alright, so I am hoping to purchase a 2011 Fusion later tonight. (hopefully someone can answer me before then)

 

I also plan on upgrading the speakers and the amp, etc.

I've have audio experience but no car audio experience.

 

Does it make sense to get SYNC if you plan on replacing the audio set up?

I am not sure how the audio system is divided, and whether the sync would have line-out for me to use or not.

 

Hopefully someone can educate me =)

I would get it just for the integrated blue tooth phone interface alone, not to mention the voice commands etc. I'm not a an ford audiophile, however, I think you'll still be able to upgrade and keep all the sync features. Based on your user name 'nullstring', you're a computer geek anyway, so get all the technology you can. I would 'like' my hybrid w/o sync and GPS, but I LOVE it with all the gadgets!

If you're dead set on upgrading the head unit then don't bother with Sync. However, I think you'll be happier if you get Sync, keep the factory head unit and just upgrade the speakers and add an amp.

Lol, the issue is that I am too much of a electronics/computer geek now.

 

I am not too attracted by gimmicky features, which most of the SYNCS are.

[Then again, I haven't really used it, so maybe I am wrong...]

 

On the other hand, it looks like you develop software for the system, so I could also do something cool on that end.

like.. it looks like you get internet access.. (I can't find very good resources on that), but if you do.. I could do some serious damage with that.

Some do but most do not. You'd have to use a line level input amp.

go with sync you won't regret it. I recently put 2 10" subs in my fusion running on a polk audio PA 400.1 amp (800w 400rms),

i had a line output converter installed on the stock head unit to convert the line level signal to RCA for my amp,

to save money on the rest of the install i installed the amp and the subs myself.

only thing is make sure you get an amp with its own bass controller, that way you wont have to andjust the amp with a screwdriver everytime you want to change the sub power.

works and sounds perfect and so does sync
