adding amp to factory stereo on 2011 SE

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed, but I cant find it anywhere on here. I am leasing a 2011 fusion SE with Sync, and don't want to do anything too intrusive on the car, or screw it up trying to take apart the dash. I know how to wire an amp, but I am curious how I go about tapping into the speaker wires from the head unit. Do I have to remove trim on the dash and pull the factory stereo unit out? Or, is there a way to get to the wires somewhere else? I intend on using a line level to RCA converter.

I believe the trim pops off around the radio and there are 4 screws to remove, then slide out the unit. Get a wiring adapter from Crutchfield or somewhere else. Crutchfield will also give you free connection directions in addition to the wiring harness.

I just put my sub and amp in my 2011 fusion yesterday so i think i can help. To start off you need to take the compartment off the top of the radio, the thing that has the flip up lid. It has two screws that holds that in under the rubber mat, you have to be real careful there is a strap on the underside that is also screwed in. Once that is removed there is two screws at the top that also have to be removed, once that is removed the radio bezel will flip out about 2 inches. When that is done you have to pop the tray at the bottom out, the tray with the 12v cig plug. then the bezel is free. Remove all the wiring that is hooked to the bezel, now there is four screws that hold the radio in. When that is removed there are a few plugs that are hooked to the back of the radio. You will need a line-out converter to hook-up a amp and sub if you what to keep the factory adapter. I hooked my line-out converter to the white/ white and orange wire ran my rca's and everything is working great. If this car is a lease i would not recommend doing this, To install my full system took more then a half and day. Any questions feel free to ask.

thanks for the reply. yeah, sounds like a decent amount of work, but it should be worth it if I have the car for 3 years right? :unsure: is that the only reason you wouldn't recommend it? or is it the risk of breaking something? I already have the sub and wiring kit...so it's just a matter of investing time and knowing I can do it right. I was hoping there was a way to get to those wires other than pulling out the radio, but i guess it is what it is.

I ran line out converters also. It's easier if you tap the speaker wires where the run up the door pillars on either side of the front seats beind the panels where the seatbelts are attached. The colors will be the same. All you have to do is pop off a couple of interior panels to get to it. That way you don't have to pull the dash apart.
