anemic Report post Posted December 1, 2010 tire rack has the following winter tires in 225 50 17'sBlizzak WS70Firestone WinterforceDunlop SPWinter Sport M3Pirelli Winter 210Michelin X Ice XI2 I have seen a few scattered threads on the forum; I have 'winter tires' or 'I have X Ice' but I have not really seen a thread where a Fusion driver writes up his tires in a critical & comparative way. Clearly some times work better on certain cars. So an M3 would have a different winter tire than a minivan. I love the Pilot OEM tires. I love the alloy wheel with a wheel cover (system) which puts clearcoat finish failures behind us forever (2010 SE 4-cyl 6-sp manual). Today I confirmed in my first snow drive that the Pilots are what they appear to be, despite the M&S sidewall rating (did they pay somebody for that?) they are a summer tire and a great one at that...and that is all as far as it's winter benefits. Blizzaks have long been my choice for winter tires, as a skier who drives in crazy conditions by choice on a regular basis. However they are squishy. They are unbeatable on ice & snow however. (passat wagons, audi a6 wagon, golfs) What is your tire feedack specific to your Fusion?
anemic Report post Posted December 1, 2010 has anyone run Generals Altmax Arctics on their Fusion? i'll let you know how those work in about a week. 215 50 17 winter size as 225 50s are unavailable in this line. skinnier winter tires work well on snow. Moosehead Report post Posted December 4, 2010 has anyone run Generals Altmax Arctics on their Fusion? I have them... was pretty happy with them last year. Haven't had a chance to put them on this year yet.
anemic Report post Posted December 7, 2010 I just got back from the tire store. On the dry pavement these Generals work VERY well. Wow color me impressed. If the winter - meat tread is any indication, these will be killers on snow as well. I can't wait. I may have to go in search of some snow. The lakeshore has a bunch right now, about 40 minutes away. Might have to go do some cold weather testing so I can report back to you guys. If the snow & ice performance is anything close to my expectations, I may be done with Blizzaks. The Generals are not squishy at all. Bear in mind that this is the size skinnier than our OE tire size, which should easily have a less stable feel. It actually feels very good on the dry, as compared to every Blizzak I have owned (many sets). Coming off the Pilot summer tires, there is of course a difference but it is less of a difference than I had anticipated, which is such a pleasant surprise! So far I would not hesitate to go with the Generals if you are considering your options. By the way, the Blizzaks are no doubt fantastic winter tires, probably the best. However, when the road is dry, they are squishy. That is the area where I had hoped to improve for my Fusion. If you live in Quebec or the UP or high in the Rockies where there is mostly full time snowy driving, the Blizzak may still be your best choice. I am looking forward to winter driving on both cars now!
anemic Report post Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) The General Altimax Alpine is on peer with the Blizzak on ice & snow. Very nice. Highly recommend it for Fusion. Edited December 21, 2010 by anemic
