Problem Starting in old weather (morning only)

Recommended Posts

Hi I am having a serious problem with my 06 fusion SEL V6. I am having serious problems starting the car in the cold in the morning. The temp today was only 4 celcius but it had to crank like 15 times (3 times X5 cranks each) in order to start. I have taken it to the dealer which have had it overnight and it was cold and they can't seem to replicate the problem. When the car starts it seems to cough and the rpm is not steady it fluctuates around 200-300 rpm in the morning. In addition in the past i turned the key twice on n off before starting (to prime the fuel pump twice b4 starting). That seemed to do the trick but not anymore its very inconsisten. I did it today and had the same problem. I have changed the battery after 100,000KM or 62,000M thinking that was the problem but again I'm out of luck. Sometimes when it starts inthe morning theres a heavy fuel smell in the engine bay like some1 just dumped gasoline all over it. Once the car starts seems fine. Throttle response is good, fuel economy normal. I've tried fuel injector cleaners everything I just don't know what to do anymore.... Any1 could help please. The car now has 102,000 km or around 62,000 miles on.

Thanx a lot for the quick reply really helpful. Will take it to another dealer with your suggestion.

If the fuel wasn't flowing properly then why would there be a gas smell? That's why I suggested a leaky injector. Fuel pump is a possibility but I'd check the injectors first.

Thank you for your quick reply, really appriciated. Will go to another dealer with your suggestion.

Was your 'oil pressure low' light ever ding or flash when you had it sit in the on position? My car is doin the sane this as yours and only in cold mornings but my light comes on. I am taking it to my mechanic tomorrow to have him check my car out, If I get my problem resolved I'll be sure to let you know what he said to see if it may help your situation.

No that has never happened to me. I have checked the oil and everything but I fear its a problem with the fuel delivery so its either a faulty fuel pump or injector. If it does taht problem and once it starts the rpm is low for cold start like at 1200rpm which is very low for a cold start, cuz I notice that if it starts normally the rpm is at around 17-1800 rpm which is normal. Anyway have it checked out and please keep me posted because its really driving me insane and the dealer doesn't know whats wrong with it. I would gladly have it fixed if I knew what the problem was but I just don't know. Thanks for the reply.
