HID install on 2010 completed

Recommended Posts

I've completed my switch out of the low beams to HIDs, using the Digital Slim kit from DDM Tuning.

I went with the 35W (plenty of power) at 5000K.

Side by side with the stock bulbs.

I'd never done a switch like this before, so a guy I work with who's done probably over a dozen of these did most of the heavy lifting. In his words "this is the hardest car I've ever done, I'll never volunteer to do a Fusion again."

To access each bulb we used the owners manual suggested method of accessing the bulbs, which BTW is the biggest load of crap. While removing the airbox housing to change a bulb isn't the end of the world, the process of removing the passenger side wheel well is insane. It's like a bunch of Ford engineers got high when coming up with that method and thought it be funny to leave it like that.

After gaining access we snipped the stock harness and soldered/shrink-wrapped the wiring together for a proper clean connection. All of that was done inside of the chassis of the car, which on the driver side wasn't too huge of a chore. On the passenger side we looked like a couple of doctors performing surgery, feeding a soldering iron up through the bottom while holding the wires still, and the other with the eyes on the operation held the lead down from the top. At this point they are hard wired in and there is no going back. It would honestly be a bigger process to go back then going to this point.

But they look great in my opinion. It was worth the 4 hours of work it took to figure it out. This is of course compared to the 15 minutes it took my friend to do his father-in-law's Jeep last weekend. Anyone interested in this swap be aware, it's not an easy process.

Looks good, I'm looking at the same exact kit (35w / 5k). I'm not going to hard-wire them like you did however, not sure how much the dealership would appreciate that when I come off lease. Did you need any other parts that DDM offers like the Error Eliminator or the HID Harness?

Went through the same thing lol, but they do look nice. I also do give you props for soldering and using shrink wrap on the connections, VERY well done, I'm impressed. those connection should last forever. Yea the passenger side sucked. Should have seen how easy they were to do on my Econoline. I'm such an ass, putting 55w 4500k in my Econoline. I doubt anyone in front of me can see. These were the brightest possible, 5000 lumes per bulb. But thanks for posting the pic, I do though congratulate you on the connections, very very well done.

I did the ddm kit, the 55w kit, did not need an error eliminator or wiring harness. Besides the passenger side, installation was easy and they seem to be reliable, and you can really not beat the price, at all.

I know the price from that site seems like the best I have found and the fact that multiple people from this forum have had nothing but good things to say about their products... its a no brainer. Thank for the feedback in regards to the additional parts I'm going to look to order these ASAP.

Yeah I own mine, so to hell with what the dealer thinks. ;) When I decide to dump it the next owner can get the HIDs for free.

No eliminator was required. Everything fired right up with no codes.

Hi guys! I'm new to this make and model and also the forum. I recently got a used 2008 Lincoln MKZ with no HID feature. I understand that the HID and non-HID housing are different, but judging from the pictures posted by other members, the cutoff seems fine with minimal glare. Since it's not much of a blind for on-coming drivers, I want to install HID on my MKZ. I did a search on this and it seems that there is much more to it than to plug and play like my old car because of the smart box. DDM seems to be the go to guy for HID kits and I want to get myself a 35w 5000k kit. My question is if the error kit is really necessary because I keep reading mix reviews. And to the OP, do you have anymore pictures to explain the details/steps of the installation? Thanks!

I went with ddm 55w in my fusion and didn't need an error eliminator so you should be fine, another friend of mine didn't need one either. Don't waste the money in my opinion.

Hello everyone,

I am new to this site, I myself did a switch to HID's on my 2011 FF. However the route some of you are taking to get to the passenger side is way different then the route i took and seems alot more difficult. All you really have to do is take the screw and nut off the coolant tank, remove the smaller hose off the side of the tank, and the tank will be able to push up and to the side for quick easier access to the headlight housing. Also i went to xenongarage.com and bought mine there. they sell what is called a 32 and a 64 bit ballast which is completely plug and play with the 2010-2011 FF. The whole process took a total of 25 minutes to complete. Not trying to brag or tell people they are wrong, just suggesting some new ideas.

Is this for the Hybrid because from what I remember, my coolant tank isn't that close to the passenger side. Btw, I couldn't even get access to the driver side and my friend and I gave up after an hour and he's been working on cars for a while.

New to the forum.

I ordered a set of HIDs for my 2013 Fusion Hybrid from DDM Tuning and was unable to get the lights to stay on. I installed the lights and ballast and turned the lights on, they flickered a few times and that was it. I thought a fuse blew and checked all the fuses (the manual does not state which fuse is for the headlights, at least I couldn't find anything). I removed two 15a fuses, thinking they could be for the headlights and turned the headlights back on. This time the lights stayed on but a warning light came on the dash. I turned the headlights off and checked the manual to see what the two fuses were for. One was for the wipers and the other was for the inverter. Just wondering if anyone has installed HIDs on a 2013 Fusion Hybrid and why would the lights stay on with the fuse for the inverter removed? If anyone has any info I would greatly appreciate it.

I went to your link and the prices were awesome. There were a lot of options though. Do you have a list of what you purchased?

I ordered the 6000K bulbs with the 35 watt ballast. I have been told you also need to order the relay harnness in order to make the HIDs work properly. I need to order that. Hope that helps. There is also a page under Fusion & MKZ forums, HID Conversion Sets, that discusses what some guys are doing and their thoughts.
