my '11 FFH is no more

big utility van turned left in front of me. each going about 25, slightly offset frontal impact. my bags went off. broke my right hand so typing leftie.

as you can see, she's dead. totaled. 1 month old, 2k miles, 39.6 longterm mpg, best car i've ever had. look at the crumpling...she took the impact so i didnt.

 

odd thing but not unique..see the 12v battery is gone, so no power so 911 assist didnt work. maybe ford should tuck that away better? at least i was ok to call.

 

absolutely buying another...i trust me and my familys life to ford. i am sad but grateful. will be back soon gang. peace

Really sorry for your misfortune. I don't think ON STAR works when the 12 v. goes either and I think they're going to an external cell also as the built-in ones keep becoming obsolete. Here's an almost new salvage HVB. I think the Prius (below average) accident rate is producing 100 times more serviceable HVBs than are failing.

I wonder why On-Star and or 911 assist doesn't have a capacitor big enough for a 20 second call just in case (or a couple rechargeable batteries) - but if it was that easy they would have done it ?

This accident was a worst case event in that it failed the 12 v system but probably not a rare accident. The air bag systems have a capacitor but they only have to last for milliseconds. The On-Star ad about a separate cell phone flying to destruction or inaccessibility in an impact is not far fetched. Where do you keep your personal cell in the car where it's protected, accessible, has a good signal and won't be forgotten when you exit normally. I haven't decided.

in this case i didnt need 911 assist...i wasnt knocked out and it was a busy road, i bet 12 people called plus me. its that deserted road scenario. its a system fault that maybe all companies need to work to fix.

Sorry about your accident! Glad you're OK. Hopefully insurance will get you a new one quickly, and without much cost to you.

You haven't had this FFH long enough to get a first scratch! The first scratch always hurts the most but this is one hell of first scratch! Good luck on finding the next one. I sure it can't come soon enough.

got the news, totaled but no $$ amount yet. i have a deposit on a 502A red/black (i LOVE the red) very thrilled w/that. pick up nov 15.

hopefully the money will come by then, but i have enough to buy it regardless.
