Rear view mirror removal

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

I want to install a aftermarket rear view mirror but I can not figure out how to remove the factory one. There is no visible screws on the 2010 mount. Anyone have access to the service manual and can let me know how to remove it.

Thanks

Joe

Hi Joe,

Google "Ford mirror removal tool". For the automatic dimming mirror the tool goes in the top, for the manual dimming; from the bottom.

So I got the tool as mort says but it wont release the mirror. Is there any trick to using the tool? It goes about 3/4 the way in stops but does not do anything.

Hi Joe,

I've never removed a Ford mirror with the tool, so I can't help. Here are a couple pages from the service manual. The auto-dimming mirror takes the tool in the top of the bracket and slides up and away. For the standard mirror the tool goes in the bottom and the mirror slides down and away. Really not much help, sorry.

Hey Mort

Were those pictures for a 2010? I have a auto dim mirror and there is no way to put the tool on the top. The tool will fit in the bottom but it still wont release.

Hi Joe,

Well, it's the 2010 manual, includes the hybrid, but it certainly misses some later model year changes. The mirror stuff refers to the Sync microphone in the mirror. My mike is in the headliner. I looked at my mirror and I can't see any way to get the tool in the top either. I hope somebody else knows how. And if you figure it out let me know.
