Have you used wheels that do not have TPMS?

Recommended Posts

I am thinking about winter tires. In the past I have bought a separate set of wheels for my winter tires. That was before the days of tire pressure monitoring systems.

I am happy to buy the separate wheels without the TPMS installed, and live without the benefit of the sensors. I know that the dash board light will come on. My question is will it be a solid warning light or a flashing warning light? Pages 199 and 200 of the owner's guide are not very clear about this.

Have you done this yourself? and what did the light do?

yea the manual is clear as mud on this but I interpret it as saying (not tried it) if there is a hard error (such as in 4 non TPMS snow tires) the light will be on solid but if soft error (not tire pressure wise) the TPMS light will blink (such as spare in use) - Ford changed to a new sensor in 2010 so asking a 200x owner wont cut it.

Yes, I use snow tires on wheels that have no TPMS. Light stays on all the time. No problem. Just check tire pressure monthly at least. (should do this anyway). I don't trust the standard tires for the winters in CT. I am putting

TPMS on the snow tire wheels for my new Vette. The tires are so "thin" you would have a hard time telling if it is flat but the FFH tires will be obvious.
