Got a switch blade key !!

I just recently bought one off ebay for 48 US shipping included !!, I always wanted to keep the 2 originals in a safe place, as you will need to use these 2 keys to program anything in the future for a spare, or its a costly trip to the dealer ship.

 

 

It took a week and a half for it to arrive in mail.

 

after it arrived i went to walmart, and did the key cutting there. I kinda thought they wouldnt cut transponder keys, but they did,.

 

To my amazement, they cut my key free !! Cause i didnt need buy one of their blank as i had my own, otherwise it would of been 2.99. The blank key was part # 24R if anyone is interested, they need to know this to proceed with the key cutting.

 

at first i wanted to not risk my switchblade, and test cut on the blank key, they had to see if it will actually work, like opening my car door to confirm it was cut right, but i went ahead and took a gamble anyway.

 

the machine they used to cut my key was called a Axxess Precision key duplication machine. After the cut and tried it on my car door, it opened with ease, no jiggling around the lock or anything, just one turn, it unlocked.

 

I suggest you use your other original key you have, to use to duplicate with, as your other key you're currently using is being subjected to wear. and you want a clean cut copy as possible.

 

Now its time to program it:

 

IMPORTANT

 

You must program your new remote transponder first, before learning the key with the car.

 

The instructions provided to me with the key i got on ebay, wasn't very specific, until i finally got if figured out:

 

- close all doors

 

- UNLOCK ALL DOORS, using the power lock button inside your car door, to unlock it with. (was not mentioned with the instructions, which made me struggle for an hour lol)

 

- insert an original key into ignition, and turn it to the #2 position. (the cylinder has 4 positions. #1 OFF, #2 ON, #3 ACC ON, #4 CAR ON (which springs back to position #3)

 

- when at position #2, turn to position #3, do this 8 FULL times back and forth all within 10 seconds (#2 & #3 counts as 1 full time) (instructions also wasnt very specific about this)

 

- ending at the 8th time on the #3 Position, in 1 sec, you will hear all your car locks all lock and unlock, confirming the car is in PROGRAMMING MODE.

 

- now press a button on your switchblade key remote, and it will learn it. (you have a 20 second window to do this)

 

- take the original key out of the ignition, and the car will lock and unlock doors again, confirming the exit of programming mode

 

Test out the buttons, too see if its indeed all working.

 

 

Now to program the key to start your car:

 

You will need 2 original IKT keys, that came with car when your purchased it. (If you only have 1 original key somehow, you're SOL and need to go to the stealership, for them to do this, charging you alot to do it)

 

- Place the first original key, in the ignition, and start from that position #1 and turn it to position #3

 

- leave it at Position #3 for 3 seconds.

 

- turn it back to position #1 and pull out the key

 

- count 3 seconds and place the second original key, in the ignition, and start from that position #1 and turn it to position #3

 

- leave it at Position #3 for 3 seconds

 

- turn it back to position #1 and pull out the key

 

- count 3 seconds, and place your new switchblade key, in the ignition, and start from that position #1 and turn it to position #3

 

- leave it at Position #3 for 5 seconds.

 

- turn it back to position #1 and pull out the key

 

- count 10 seconds, and then start your car with your new key, which should start.

 

yayyyy, now you got a cool/stylish looking spare key, that wont stab you and damage your pockets for less than $50 !!

 

(type in ebay search "ford fusion flip key" and look for the one that costs 48 US and shipping is free)

I bought this key a few weeks ago but haven't had the time to program it yet, really glad you posted the correct way to do this, you saved me the pain of figuring out the instruction that came with the key.... Only one thing I had trouble with, took my keys to my local Walmart to get the key cut and they wouldn't touch it, they ranted about how it wasn't a factory key, they were liable, probably wouldn't work, etc... I told them I would take full responsibility and they weren't liable but the guy wouldn't budge, actually 2 of them.... guess that's what you get at Walmart, went to my local hardware store where a high school kid burned off a perfect copy using the usual old fashioned manual key cutting maching.... cost me a whole 60 cents.... quickly programmed the new remote in just a few minutes following your instructions.... now i'm wondering if I don't use this key but just keep it for a spare, and i lose one of my original keys, can this third party key be used as one of the two required to program another new one???

yeah i guess every walmart is different or every place for that matter, or depends on the person working that day who is willing to do it lol. at first i went to Canadian Tire (a hardware store in canada), and they didnt do it for me as well, and they had the same key duplications machine as walmart i went afterwards too !! they did it for me without any hassles.

 

im not so sure if a third party key and an original can program another key, i guess if you ever needed a 4th key in the future, you can try it i guess, than you will know than. lol

 

 

i believe these instructions would also work with any ford vehicle, using that type of IKT, cause my bro, drives a 2010 ford escape, and these instructions worked also.

Thanks for the info. I bought one of these keys back in the Spring, they were $52.00 then. It took about two weeks to get my key. I haven't gotten around to programming the key, so thanks for the explaining. I bought stuff for the trunk of the car, but still haven't bought a crate to place it in. I'm going to hopefully do all this, with the coming three day weekend (Labor Day).

Just received a key from your E-Bay source without a problem. Took about a week and half, but so far I have been unable to get it cut. Went to Lowe's where the little gal refuses to do anything special (should not have been surprised), went WalMart; they told me they don't do doubled side keys(?), went to Ace Hardware and they didn't like the different groove sizes between the original and the switch blade key. They have recommended some one else but haven't been able to get there yet.

 

I have checked that the key fit the locks but that about all. Still trying!

Thanks for the info OP! I have been looking for buying a spare key from eBay since day one! Now I can finally act. Can I assume you have 2010 fusion? Or it doesn't matter?

 

The only thing un-certain is if we can use this spare key to program the 4th key, but I will just use the spare key and leave my original keys at home.

Lowes cut the key for me for free because I brought in the key myself! the guy looked at me weird and said he didn't want to mess it up but I told him its ok I have another if it does't work and sure enough it worked perfectly and I took the other in and he cut it for free too!

Does anyone know if can be programmed to include the separate fob for factory remote start?

I don't think you can program, to include the Remote Start FOB, to this "Flip Key". You can buy another remote start FOB and program it. Then you can attach to your Flip Key ring, like your orignal keys came.

Go visit your local Ford Dealers parts department. I think I paid $24.

yeah mine was too, and the groove is a lot wider and deeper, but dont worry, it still works like a charm !!! good luck finding hardware store to cut it, i didnt have much problems, you gotta be persistent, if they keep refusing. or come when its a different employee. Walmart did it for me no probs

My experience was just the opposite.... the retard at Walmart wouldn't touch it even though i told him i wouldn't hold them responsible, he was a total jerk.... went to my local hardware (not chain) store and the kid dug right into it without question.... works fine but i really don't like this key, it's bigger, if i didn't need other keys on my keychain it would be ok by itself.... i'll just save mine for a backup....

I got mine cut at the local locksmith for 1 dollar. The key itself is a nice backup, but mine has extremely poor range.

ok, I might got my $50 wasted. I went Canadian Tire, the stuff was friendly and did not charge me anything because she wasn't sure if it was gonna work - and unfortunately, it seemed it is not working.

 

She tried to cut it on one of her cutting machines(the regular manual type that you see in most places) but the key stub was too big to fit in so she used another (plug in, auto type). The key came out with one spot different...I felt I am an idiot because I should have told her to fold the blade so it could fit in the manual machine that is much more reliable. Hope people out there can learn from my lesson.

 

I can still file the blade a bit so the shape will be close to the original, though it is not gonna be identical. Now question: for a perfectly cut key, can it open the trunk without having been program? For now my copy will not open trunk but I am hoping it's just because it was not programed. I am reluctant to program it unless I can be sure programing is the only missing condition. There are limited number of extra keys you can program, and I don't want to waste one.

 

any info is appreciated.

damn that sucks they screwed up your cutting. you can probably ask the ebay seller if can kindly send you another key blade, and say the blade you have is defective or something. if the key isnt cut right, than it wont open anything. cause when i got my key cut, i have NOT done any programming whatsoever, and my key was able to open trunk and open door. you have to program the key to START THE CAR, is the reason for programing the key. which can only be done AFTER you program the remote locks and alarm, as i mentioned in my 1st post. I guess you can still program and use the remote transponder to open doors and trunks, even though the key blade doesnt work for now.

 

 

and when you get your hands on another blade, you just swap out the failed cut one, get it cut again, and than program the key to start the car.

Update: I just didn't want to give up my $50 so I filed the blade. Guess what....it still couldn't open the trunk but it has no problem on the driver door and programing!! So it's working, just not completely, but that's ok. The trunk lock is pickier but I can use remote anyways. I still want to have a new blade though as this one is shaky I don't feel 100% comfortable with it.

nope there is no connection, if you flip the blade 90 degrees, you will notice a tiny screw holding the blade in place, in the metal flip thingy. im gussing you unscrew that little screw and blade comes out for you to replace.

 

so filing the blade down, you can open the car doors and start the car now?? wow thats cool how got a temporary fix for now lol. yeah just use the button to open the trunk anyway lol, i dont even open the trunk for any reason with the key, when i can use the remote do to that anyway, easier.

I had a similar problem and ordered another key blank from my eBay supplier. He was very helpful. The charge for a new key blank for the flip key was $3 plus shipping. I ordered another flip key from him at the same time and there was no additional shipping charge. He included 2 new mounting screws. Works great. Handled it all by e-mail. After having the battery mounts break in my Dodge key, I had to pay ~$90 for a new key a programming. I wanted to have 2 programmed spares so I wouldn't get caught again.

I was working with the eBay Vendor '1113transponderkey' out of Taiwan. (I assumed it was the same vendor mentioned by Allen84; price and shipping matched.) His Ford Flip Key was $48 including shipping. I emailed him a question through eBay and he said it would be $3 plus shipping for a new uncut blade. When I told him I would be ordering another full flip key for $48 from him, he said he would include extra uncut blade, which he did. Arrived within a week US Postal
