3.0 Spec's and info and ECU tuner's

Hi everyone, I have a 2010 Fusion SEL, I opted for the SEL over the Sport for more feature's and a plush ride, plus apparently the 3.0 isn't much slower.

How exactly has it changed from previous year fusion's 3.0 to get 240 HP out of it? How will reliability be likely in a few year's? It's the best car I have ever owned though the transmission concerns a bit.

 

Has anyone heard of any aftermarket ECU tuner's for the 2010 3.0? I don't want a major power boost or anything significant but I had an ECU tuner on my last car an 08 Camry V6 and not only did it improve power, but also improved gas milage and the transmission.

Go to steedafusion.com. They have an intake and different tuners you can get. I want to buy the sct tuner i just don't have the money. Apparently with the intake you can do 30hp. Just so you know, a chip is not a replacement for a custom tuning from a place with a dyno but it's simple, and can easily go back to stock to take your car to the dealer if you need to.

The SCT tuner is not yet available for the 2010 Fusions. It is under development and should be available very soon. The CAI is available for the 2010's.

I called Steeda, and SCT, all sct tuners work on the 2010 Fusions.

Honestly ive been itching to add performance to my new found love. i have the tux black on black 3.0..

 

 

Steeda offers a cold air, like previous posters said however i think you should wait until someone like K&N and others start making them.. steeda's cold air is a stainless steel tube which isn't bad but it is a heat magnet. they claim air is only heated 5 to 10 degrees over engine compartment temps.. still a composite intake system would be ideal, the only downside is waiting long enough for someone to make one. the stainless might not bother you. but i personally prefer a composite tube.

 

Also i did a baseline dyno on my stock setup SAE corrected i put down 192hp 184ft/lbs trq on Chevron 87 octane. i attached my graph.. i am going to dyno on E85 at some point. to see if there is a performance gain as claimed.

 

 

SCT FINALLY has support for our cars. im super happy about that.

 

 

and i myself plan on ordering their SCT Advantage III Ford Pro Racer Software just because i want complete control over all aspects. i got super excited after reading this on wiki..

A Twin-turbocharged version of this engine is used in the Noble M400, a British supercar. The engine is rebuilt and tuned to a max power of 425 bhp (317 kW) at 6500 rpm, with a torque figure of 390 lb·ft (529 N·m) at 5000 rpm. Noble has used forged pistons, an oil cooler, a larger baffled oil sump and extra cooling ducts to maintain its durability.29 L/100 km (8.1 mpg-US)"

 

while i don't plan on going to this extreme..maybe lol its exciting to see the potential of these motors.

 

 

for mods. id suggest the following.

 

1. SCT tuner, they claim a 17hp 20ft/lbs gain on stock.

2. Cold air intake.

3. its always recommended that if you do intake to do exhaust. in this case Magnaflow has always made quality catbacks.

4. Re-tune after intake. and after exhaust. :)

hey, so i just got the 3.0 v6, im looking to mod the engine with simple bolt on's. just curious what is gonna void my warranty if any of it, and are any of these mod's detrimental to the integrity of the motor? i.e. is it gonna break it down faster. also, i realize i need a tuner to attach to the car, what do those usually run for, and how difficult is it to tune it yourself? otherwise how much does it cost to have someone tune it for you. you sounded knowledgeable, so hopefully you can help. thanks! really just lookin at the cold intake, exhaust and chip combo, with a tune, but afraid its gonna scratch my warranty =/

I ordered the cold air intake and the tuner as a kit. So far I have nothing but issues with them. First the air intake is massive and rubs on the rad hose and frame of the car. The install kit requires a clamp in order to work which also isn't provided (but you would think that if it is a kit it would have everything you need). The instructions for installation don't even match the 2010 model so you just have to figure it out.

 

Second is the issues with the tuner. It just doesn't work. The tune they gave me screws everything up and the car is undrivable. At least I could switch it back to stock and still drive my car. I have been waiting for over a month now for a tune that works and at first they said it would just be a few days. I don't think I will ever get a working tune or my money back. Think twice before getting aftermarket stuff!

 

On the plus side, I really love how the intake sounds. It has a really nice growl to it! But removing everything infront of the stock filter will produce a similar sound. Just make sure you secure the filter with some tape or small clamps so you don't ruin the engine with debris.

Contrary to your experience I love the intake and it works very well. It barely fits yes, but the clamp you need is just an 0 ring clamp, you use the stock one, Steeda does give you all the necessary parts. I can swap my intake in a few minutes it's that easy. The tune idk about, but when I called Steeda they said they could make me up a custom tune, and that may be why you're having problems. It's also not recommended that you run the car on 87 octane with a chip. Call steeda and see if they can get you a new tune without tuning the tranny, and for a higher octane fuel.

Sorry, I am a bit lost on this thread. A chip or a tune? On a tuner, they should have a tune available for 87 octane as well as a higher octane (usually an octane that's available in your area). Anyway, the tuner should come supplied with at least two tunes, one for 87 and one for (lets say) 93. Most of the Mustang tunes come with tunes for 3 octanes. It shouldn't be any different for a Fusion 3.0. Just my opinion but it sounds like they're dropping the ball on this one.

 

I'd like to see a K&N air system (I've got a 3.0 2011) but there's so many other companies out there that make these kits (and at a much cheaper price) I guess it's a waiting game, or not enough supply and demand. Kind of a shame considering a lot of folks would like to add these items to their Fusions. Yea, the Fusion is geared towards a 'nice mid sized car' but then there's guys and gals like us that want more and don't have the $$$$ to buy a Sport. Oh well, just my 2 cents....
