I want to install a remote start on my Fusion 2010 I asked @ the dealer where I bought the car and they charge me $595 with installation. I looked online at the ford accesories page and its about $315. My question is how much did you guys paid for it? by the way the one I want is the one that lets you know that the car has started.

That's freakin cheap I my opinion! Ford installing anything for under 1000 bucks is good. haha. But that sound about right. The unit is 315 plus 285 for installation. Mine already came installed so I don't know how much mine was. But I doubt you'll get it cheaper than that.

When I ordered my 2009 Fusion SEL AWD I ordered the factory remote start...it was a $300.00 CDN option. It's always cheaper to buy the factory option (if available) and then you are assured that it will work with your car. I've heard horror stories about after market/non Ford remote starts. If you can get the Ford brand autostart for under $1,000.00 installed by a Ford dealer, then grab it, IMO.

Doesn't installing the Ford remote start only have the same range as your key fob for unlocking the doors? I just got a Compustar remote starter installed with the 900sh single button remote and the temperature actuated rear defroster for $375. And the Compustar has a 2500' range, and I really like the look of the remote itself. Reminds me of the push button start in my wife's Altima.

Or why not get a good Viper system for 350 bucks and have some place install it for 100? You can get a way better deal going aftermarket. Personally, I don't like the Ford Remote start, it doesn't seem to have much range, and is a little temperamental. I would never spend more than 500 on remote start ever, it's a wireless receiver with an ignition bypass and a button.

i made the appointment at the dealer yesterdayi will be installing the

Remote Start Bi-Directional 100 Series they will charge me $585 with installation and 2 remotes I preferred Ford because if something goes wrong for any reason it will still be under Ford guarantee.

Ford sells two different ones, the bi-directional one that lets you know when the car has started, and one that just starts the car w/o letting you know. My opinion is the regular one is the best. Here's why. The bi-directional one costs a lot more, has a bigger control with a fin on it, and (the most important) it stops the engine as soon as you open the door! You must insert the key and restart the car. I have the regular remote start on mine and it is a nice little size fob, has an incredibly long range (can even start my car from inside a building where I couldn't even see my car) and I can simply push the 'unlock' button on the key, get in, insert the key and turn it to 'on', and drive away. My neighbor has the bi-directional one and he hates it. Why would you want the car to shut off as soon as you open the door?? Don't bother asking any Ford technicians about this, they have no idea. I just found out by accident when the dealer ordered the regular one on my car. I can't say how much the install should be b/c as I said mine came from the factory that way. But don't waste your money on the bi-directional remote start, my car has never failed to start from as far away as inside a store or the mall as I'm nearing the exit. And anyway, you'll know its started as soon as you see the car b/c it turns on the parking lights. Good luck!!

Yes that's it. Its just a small rectangular fob with a red LED light that blinks when you push and hold it. Its awesome. Starts my car from hundreds of feet away, even inside buildings. The bi-directional remote system is the one with the little fin sticking out the top.

Stopping the engine when the door opens makes it harder for someone to steal your car.

If someone was trying to steal the car when it was remote started wouldn't they still need the key?

Yes, as soon as they step on the brake to put the tranny in gear the engine dies. I'm sure there are other safe guards too.

Hello

couple of thing about bi-directional remote start. it has a range of 1000 feet (i know i can start from pretty far away and through walls) if installed correctly it will shut of only when pressing a brake pedal before incerting the key so to the one who sad something about the door...yours probably wasn't installed correctly. Awsome product and comes with life time warranty and had to splice only into 5 wires and rest is plug and play.

It's my neighbor who has the bi-directional remote on his 2010 F-150, and it was installed by the dealership, so I'm fairly certain it was installed correctly. The engine DOES shut down as soon as you open the door, and the dealer and manual both say its supposed to. I however, have the regular remote start on my Fusion, and it works differently. While it doesn't send me a confirmation blink on the remote, it has an extremely long range and also starts the car through walls. AND it does NOT shut the vehicle down upon opening the door. It only shuts down if I depress the brake pedal before inserting the key and turning it to "ON." Its only failed to start my car one time in three months, and I was inside a mall several hundred feet away from the nearest exit. I was testing it b/c it amazed me at how far away it was able to start the car.

Huh. Well then so did I, b/c I thought it would work that way on all Fords. My mistake. I hope mgsolido is still checking this thread so he can make the right decision.

Hey there, the remote start has been installed and i really like the way it works, it was installed on a ford fusion 2010 and it will not turn off when i open the door, it will turn of if you dont insert the key and put it in to the on position and press the brake. FYI also sometimes i forget something in my house when i am already in my car and its great that you can acuatlly leave the car running and take of the keys! not sure if this is available on the regular remote start, but i really like it, also the remote controll is not that big and doesnt really bother me. I paid $612 with taxes i really recommed this.

I have the Bi-directional on my 2009 Fusion that I installed myself using the Ford install directions. Mine doen't shut off if unlock the door with the key fob. Just unlock, insert the key in the ignition and put the key to run. Very long range, and I love the conformation that lets you know the car is running...remote beeps and has a green led that flashes behind the start button on the remote.

The car shutting off is a change for 2011 due to the MyKey program. :headspin:

There is no way to turn that "safety" feature of :finger: f.

Confirmed by my dealer. They even had to revise the manual. I don't think this was an intentional design, just one team of engineers not talking to another team. Oops. :finger:

It certainly is not the way remote start was intended. To shut off when you get into the car? No. When you step on the brake to shift into gear, yes, but not when entering the car.

how hard was the installation to do ? did you have to cut any wires ? and lastly how long did it take ?

Using the Ford install instructions, I thought it was an easy install. Honestly programing the system is the hardest, and that's not really that bad..haha. I think it took me about half a day to do. Nope, no cutting....just tapping a few wires in the drivers kick panel, plugging the included wire harness into the car's plugs under the dash.
