mgbabe Report post Posted July 21, 2010 Hi, has anybody used a power inverter in their Fusion plugged into the cigaretter lighter? It doesn't blow up anything does it? We are looking to power a laptop for a long trip.
TX 2010 Ford Fusion Sport Report post Posted July 21, 2010 I've used one in my 2010 Fusion to power a charger for a cell phone. I've also used one in my 2008 Edge to power a Sony portable 7" DVD player and a Microsoft Zune. None are as large as a laptop, but I've never had a problem using an inverter in either vehicle. Good luck!

akirby Report post Posted July 21, 2010 Thanks for your reply. I'll try it in the next couple of days. Radio Shack has a nice one with 3 plugs and a usb port for charging cell phones, ipods, etc. I think it was $40. You don't need a lot of power (watts) for electronics. It just has one plug.

Also this is a fantastic portable power strip. Just watch your power use to not over task the port. http://www.amazon.com/Monster-MP-OTG400-BK-Outlets/dp/B000F9YN2M
Oldguy16 Report post Posted November 19, 2010 I would check the power usage of your laptop. My laptop is 92w, which is seriously pushing it for a cigarette lighter. Just look on the transformer that's on the power cord. But check the input power needed because nothing is 100% efficient. Please, if you do run your laptop do not connect anything else to that power outlet. Maybe a cell phone charger at the max, but you're close to the max the outlet can handle. Depends on the laptop of course. Actually if you had like a netbook, that would probably be perfect.
TruFire Report post Posted October 25, 2021 I use a Duracell 400 watt inverter connected to my trunk battery to power an Xbox and monitor I have installed in the back seat. Haven’t had any issues other than some random buttons being pressed on the ac/media controls by a ghost when I turn the inverter on the first few seconds. Shouldn’t be cause for concern right?
