isritter Report post Posted May 18, 2010 Hey all, 2006 SE V6 driver here. When my car is in motion, the front left (I think) wheel makes a chirping noise. When the brake is pressed, the noise goes away. This is contrary to what I've read about braking issues but I wonder if I might have a wheel bearing that's going out??? Any thoughts? fusionff Report post Posted May 18, 2010 It might be the early warning tab on the brake pads.
isritter Report post Posted May 18, 2010 It might be the early warning tab on the brake pads. I was under the impression that the early warning tab would screech when the brakes were pressed. My FL wheel chirps when the car is in motion and stops chirping when the brakes are pressed. I "think" it might be the wheel bearing but I'm wondering what others thing who are maybe a little more polished than I. I haven't checked the brake pads though and I'm sure they need replacing as well.
fusionff Report post Posted May 18, 2010 That is how the warning tabs work, they will make noise until you press the brake. You press the brake and then it stops. If you can, jack it up and remove the front left tire and see how much pad is left. It may be something else altogether, but I would check the pads first. jeff_h Report post Posted May 19, 2010 Awesome, thanks! And make sure you take the flashlight and get a good look at the inside pad, which is tough because the caliper blocks most of the view. But when I checked mine at 25K I noticed that the inside pads seemed to be wearing faster than the outside, so if you pull the wheel and see plenty of meat left on the outside pad don't just take it from granted that the inside is also fine.
