Sync Trouble at Highway Speeds - 2010 Fusion

My 2010 Fusion does not understand anything said at highway speeds and everyone says I sound like I am in a tunnel while using the phone. I did some digging on this forum as well as other Fusion sites and at syncmyride.com. I did find this exact issue for the 06-09 Fusions but it was supposedly fixed for the 2010's. I contacted the dealer and the did find something for "microphone sensitivity" or something like that. It is currently at the dealer and I should get it back tonight.

 

I will post what fix they did and the results of the fix when I get it back.

 

Since I could not find anything specifically for the 2010, I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with a 2010 or if I am all by myself on this one?

I took my 2010 out on a road trip for the first time this past weekend and had no issues with voice recognition at highway speeds (and beyond). My kids told me that they hear me at least as well on the SYNC phone as they do on the regular cell. I hear them very clearly. I had two dropped calls with one of my sons but thats been an ongoing issue with calls to and from him.

They ordered a new microphone and will call me when it comes in. I do not know if it will be a new stand-alone mic like the one they have used on the Gen I models or if it will be a new mic for the mirror. We shall see.

You're woefully misinformed about the Gen 1 models... Sync came out in 2008, and wasn't in the 06 or 07 models. Also, the microphone on the Gen 1 models that have Sync is in the mirror. What stand-alone microphone are you talking about?

 

Oh yeah, BTW, I can have all my windows part way down with the sunroof open, at highway speeds, and switch albums using Sync just fine...I have an 09.

I meant the Gen 1 models with Sync. I did incorrectly state 06-09 models in my first post which should have said 08-09 but I figure most people will realize I am only talking about Sync problems on cars that actually have Sync :)

 

I also know that the Sync microphone is in the mirror for the Gen 1's w/ Sync just like the 2010's. What was referring to was a TSB that fixed this exact issue on the Gen 1's that had this problem by adding a stand-alone mic. I found this thread over at syncmyride.com:

It also turned up on another Fusion forum but I do not remember which one as I did not save it. I probably should have included this info on the last post but I was in a hurry and using my iPhone and simply forgot.

 

I am glad to hear that you do not have any issues either. It sound's like it was only a small issue on a few Gen 1's and even a smaller issue on the 2010's (so far, I am the only one I can find).

It was only in the mirror for early 2010 models - it was later moved to the headliner (job 3 maybe?).

It think they did that so they didn't have to replace the mirror when someone says their Sync isn't working right.

Ahh Man, I thought it was in the mirror all this time. Everything I read said it was in the mirror so I never looked elsewhere. I guess I missed that is was changed. Sorry for the confusion. :banghead:

 

Mirror, headliner or in the trunk .... There is still an issue with mine so they are replacing the microphone. Hopefully that should fix everything.

 

I will post part numbers, etc when it is complete just in case others run into the same issue.

Hey I didn't know it was in the mirror either. I didn't know there even was a microphone! I thought I just 'communicated' with it like Keir Dullea and HAL in 2001 A Space Odyssey!! :finger:
