funny Report post Posted April 4, 2010 Ouch! Looks like only your bumper is damaged, hopefully will be fixed soon. And it's nice that you are able to maintain a sense of humor about this ... I would literally be crying (my car is one week old today). Good luck.

That's why auto insurance in DC is so high, but I carry even more than the minimum. The trunk is dented too and obviously my blind spot / backup sensors are jacked. My insurance company said I could wait a week and have them fight the other company to get them to pay for everything, including my deductible! So yeah, I'm just going to hang tight for a minute, plus we have other cars to drive in the meantime.
Juris Report post Posted April 4, 2010 (edited) I wonder whether the driver of the Civic shown in the picture is still sitting in the exact same position she was prior to the accident -- and whether prior to the accident, just as shown in the picture, she was glued to her telephone and forgot to stop her car. cchaos Report post Posted April 4, 2010 I had a similar situation where someone rear ended my FFH. My vehicle had minor damage -- some scratches on the bumper and the bumper was slightly popped off one side (as it's designed to take the impact). But not a spec of damage to the sheet metal or frame. On the other hand, the Nissan Maxima that hit me had a severely bent front hood, mangled headlights, a turn light dangling from it's cord, as well as a badly bent front bumper. It was amazing how much more damaged the Nissan was. Needless to say, I feel really safe in my Fusion after that experience.
Oman Report post Posted April 6, 2010 Usually the front bumper of the rear car nosedives under the bumper of the forward car. This causes the bumper of the car in front to push into the soft engine guts of the rear car causing more damage to the rear car. I think this is only fair considering that in general the rear car carries most of the fault :> Jon I had a similar situation where someone rear ended my FFH. spacenomyous Report post Posted April 12, 2010 Just thought I'd share something. It's going to the body shop on Tuesday, but in the mean-time we've been driving it. Obviously, the BLIS is damaged so the left blind spot stays on and when it's in reverse the beeps conflict since the other sensors are fine. Kind of a struggles between the beep-beep of the good sensors and the constant beep of the blocked sensor, which is fine and to be expected. Well today, we put something in the trunk and I had to slam the trunk pretty hard to get it to latch; after I did that, my dash *freaked* out. In the left warning window it had a constant scroll of: Trunk OpenDoor OpenCross-Traffic BlockedRear Sensor Blocked (not sure of that one, it was different from the Cross-Traffic)Tire Pressure Monitoring SystemEmergency Brake and on top of all that, the dash brightness kept switching from lit to dim, like the daylight sensor was messed up. Obviously, all the alerts were false, the doors and the trunk were closed, the e-brake wasn't on, and none of my tires were flat. I haven't started the car back up yet, but we'll see tomorrow if the sensors are still freaking out.
acdii Report post Posted April 12, 2010 You can disable the rear sensors through the dash, that may help until they are repaired.

Sounds like it damaged the wiring or a junction box or maybe one of the sensors is damaged and is overloading the data bus. I'm sure it'c crash related.
