ran-t@hotmail.com Report post Posted March 30, 2010 I understand there are two USB connections available. Has anyone found the second one on a 2010 Fusion?
acdii Report post Posted March 30, 2010 Yep, it is behind the center console. the cover on the rear of the console removes from the floor backwards, don't pull from the top like I did, you will break it. Pull up a bit to get it over the carpet, and pull it firmly back. On the right side is a module where you can find the port for the small usb connection. If you have a PS3, you will know the type of cable needed, it is the same one used to connect the game controller to the PS3. If you plan to connect anything other than a USB hard drive to it, you will need a male to male USB adapter to connect a flash drive, or other cable to it. It's the same kind that many cell phones and GPS devices use as well.
caddywhompus Report post Posted October 22, 2010 Can you plug a drive into both USB connections at the same time, and switch between them?
Moosehead Report post Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) Can you plug a drive into both USB connections at the same time, and switch between them? Yes you can switch by selecting USB2 in the Nav system, or under Aux on your regular menu (I think) - or you can use the "USB 2" voice command Edited October 22, 2010 by Moosehead
jasonehuber Report post Posted November 16, 2010 I'm also looking for the USB2 port. I have a 2011 Fusion Hybrid. I don't want to risk breaking a plastic panel by pulling on something I shouldn't. I would assume the location is the same as the 2010 model, but I'm not quite certain where that is even with the instructions above??
ElKabong Report post Posted December 10, 2010 Please, won't some kind soul post pictures? Or even a PDF? It's too cold up here to go blindly tugging on plastic panels. Such breakages would not be covered under warranty.
MChiarovano Report post Posted December 18, 2010 I also have a 2011 Fusion although not a hybrid and I can't seem to get the compartment off either. I tried lifting it and then pulling from the bottom but it won't budge. Is there a better way to go about doing this?
daisy3 Report post Posted January 5, 2011 The 2011 doesn't have a USB2. Refer to the user manual. ;)

Such breakages would not be covered under warranty. I have a 2011 Fusion SEL Sport with out Navigation. I Blurry Cam'ed some pictures of my exploration for the Sync module for you. Before I started ----- Using a multi-tool to help pry the bottom off. I found that the clips were somewhat soft, not stiff. But is was -15° C outside so the car had been warming up for a good 20min before I started.----- After prying both side open a bit, I used some gentle force, pulling from the bottom of the panel towards the rear seats and up a bit, as if it were on a hinge at the top (it is not on a hinge). There is enough room to pull with out having to worry about the ambient lighting wires getting yanked out (if you have them).----- \Here we can see the Sync module, with 1 USB port occupied----- Just showing a standard USB-mini connector----- Showing the direction the USB-mini connector is inserted. The fatter end (or bottom) faces towards the front of the car.----- Lastly showing the USB-mini inserted into the USB2 port on the Sync module. I did not have anything to connect it too as it was a USB-A male to a USB-mini male, and an gender changer was too much at my local computer store ($10). I will post the parts I intent to order from www.monoprice.com later.----- Continuing thoughts. There is a small void up, and to the right of the USB2 port. I am thinking about drilling a 1/4 inch hole and filling it will some sort of rubber stopper with flaps on it and pass the USB2 cable through that to the Center glove compartment. As a side note I also intend to run a USB cable from the drivers side A frame (for a GPS nav) into the center glove compartment as well and just use a 12V to USB adapter for power.
