Maintenance Indicator Question / Issue

Recommended Posts

Hello,

According to the service manual and everything I have read, the Maintenance Indicator is just a mileage counter and nothing else. After my last service, the dealership reset the indicator to 100%, which should've been a 10,000 mile counter. Because I want to be reminded in 5k for that service, I reset the counter to 50%. After a few hundred miles, the counter was reading the appropriate percentage (after 200 miles, it was reading 48% oil life). Not too long after that, the dealership performed the regenerative braking TSB which apparently reset the car's main computer (understandable, since it is software controlled).

I was driving yesterday and noticed that my car should be at about 42% oil life, based on mileage used, but the onboard computer is showing 37%. Does anyone know if the software update changed the programming of the unit to better reflect driving conditions, or is it still supposed to be a mileage counter? If it is, mine is totally off.

Thanks!

Well I found something new. I hadn't seen the oil life remaining display before which is accessed on the dash set-up menu's system check function. I show 7 % oil life remaining with 9374 miles and I have had the brake software update so it does not reset the oil life.

No, mind didn't reset with the software update, it is just seemingly functioning differently after the update. Also, my external temperature display (which seemingly never changes much because I'm usually slower than 25mph) now updates more often.

Curious.
