brunor Report post Posted March 16, 2010 I ordered a Fusion SEL and it won't be built before the 3rd week of March. I've read a lot about poor visibility when backing up so I talked to my salesman rep and enquired about having the backup camera installed (I do have the NAV unit option installed) and it is still possible to have it installed at the factory for 500 cdn dollars. Here is my question. Is it worth it? I won't have the BLIS system, just the camera. Now, as you realize, with the car being built sometimes next week, the deadline to order it is very short so a quick answer would be appreciated. Those of you who have it, do you find it useful, etc.... Thanks in advance. Can't wait till end of April, early May till my car is delivered. I keep my cars forever or until they are declared dead without possibility or ressucitation. My last car is (was) a 1991 Plymouth Sundance bought brand new so you can imagine what an upgrade it is for me.;) although I loved it till the end. Hey! it did last longer than many marriages and it didn't leave with half my paycheck and pension lol.
acdii Report post Posted March 18, 2010 I have the Sport that has the camera in the mirror. I find it useful when backing up to a wall or backing into a parking space, otherwise I don't use it. Then again, I back up using the side mirrors so the spoiler is a non issue, in fact I seldom use the middle mirror.
Rodeo Report post Posted March 18, 2010 (edited) (My opinion only) The electronics on these cars will not last nearly as long as your 1991 Plymouth Sundance did. You're lucky if it outlives the warranty. That stuff is bound to crap out in a few years at best. BUT that being said, only YOU can determine how much the option could be used and valued. Like the poster above, I use both side mirrors whenever backing and I didn't order the "electronics package" on my new car. Just wait till you look into buying updated maps for your built in NAV... (cough) LOL Edited March 18, 2010 by Rodeo
bdwells Report post Posted April 19, 2010 I love the backup camera on my 2010 SEL it is the one that pops up in the rear view mirror. I also like how it super imposes the lines so you can perfectly backup into a parking stall. Comes in very handy because I have to park in a cramped parking garage everyday. resq1diver Report post Posted April 22, 2010 I know this is past the posters time frame, but i have the FFH with the Nav, and love the rear cam. Wouldnt get a car without it now...
DJE Report post Posted April 22, 2010 My ma has one on her MKZ. It's pretty cool. I find I still use the mirrors but I haven't driven it enough to get used to it yet.
Roccod Report post Posted April 26, 2010 If ur gonna keep this car a while, just get the camera. I have it with the nav and it works great. 500 bucks spread out over the life of the car is really not a big deal. I spend at least an hour in my car everday, so its worth it to me to just go for it.
