HID's vs. Silverstars

I used to have a junker car, so I didn't do much of anything to update it. But i've been really into making my fusion look good. what are the pros and cons of HID's vs. silverstar lights, other than that HID's last a long time?

A lot of this depends on the light lenses themselves. If they are projector type beams, then HID bulbs do quite well, but if they are just standard reflectors, they may scatter the light in such a way that they become a hazard. The biggest thing is to get the correct bulb color, too hot or too cold and you will loose the road in wet weather. If the bulbs in the car are duals, high/low in one unit, you would need bixenon lamps, and they may or may not work in the car. You also need to make sure you have the correct harness for the ballasts, if the car has bulb out warning lights, then there are problems with current draw with the HID's and they flicker, or don't even come on at all.

 

The only problem with the Silverstars that I know of is they don't last long, so they have to be replaced often.

 

The bottom line is getting the correct light color output. Both of these accomplish this, the HID's just do a better job of it provided they are in the correct lens.

hi guys, guess i'm going to revive this old thread!

 

i recently upgraded my stock halogens in my 2010 fusion to silverstars but have now decided to go one step further and put in HID's since i'm still not getting the light levels that i want on the road. i will say that the silverstars are better than the stock lights in that they produce a whiter light but i figure if i can get better levels from HID's why not go for it (and at a pretty reasonable price).

 

i am in Canada so i have a few concerns about issues with the daytime running lights, etc but hopefully the kit i've ordered works out. i ordered the DDM HID Kit, 55W, H11, 5000K with the additional wiring harness which i'm hoping will prevent any potential issues with the daytime running lights - basically i will be running the HID's full time as the DRL's.

 

from what i've read, some others have had success with the DDM kit and they were pretty helpful when i called to talk to their tech support before i put in my order.

 

so it'll be a couple of weeks until they arrive but i will update the post once i get them installed.

I just did this with my '10 FF with also adjusting the headlights up a tad since they and the fog lights are known to be too low at the factory. The factory H11's are 55w bulbs and the H9's are 65w but also a much more effective design. They won't last quite as long as H11 55w bulb but provide a much better light output. If you have never been, take a look at this website for more info. on the Silverstar hype and legality of HID's in a housing not designed for them. Hope this helps.
