Front amber side marker/turn signal mod

Has anyone done this on a hybrid so that the side marker flashes when the turn signal flashes? If so, how did you get to the turn signal wires and what color wire did you connect to on each side? TIA

Lighting systems have feedback provisions and are controlled through a smart junction box. That is why you can't just tap wires to add trailer lighting, etc.

 

You might be able to get a trailer wiring kit that is compatable with your system and wire the turn signal circuits to your market lamps. The kits are pretty expensive however.

Several Fusion owners on another forum have done this on Fusions older than the 2010 model. Is the 2010 different from earlier years? All that is done is to ground the marker lights to the turn signal power wire.

Doesn't sound right to me, but I don't have access to the wiring systems any more - just going by what I have read on the trailer light wiring requirements.

I first saw this as "from the factory wiring" on a '71 Olds and I have done it on several cars since then. A owner on the other forum with a '07 Fusion says it has the SJB and he had no problems. If I can ever get to the front turn signal wires I'll give it a try and report back

I did this mod on my '07 Fusion. It should not affect the smart junction box at all, unlike a trailer harness. It is actually a simple mod. (I managed to do it....) :)

 

Here is a step-by-step in my less-than-technical words. It has been over a year since I did the mod, and I cannot remember the colors of the wires, nor am I sure the '10 model uses the same color wire.

 

1. Identify the positive (+) wire for the turn signal, and the positive (+) wire for the side marker. These should be the colored wire, and the turn signal uses a different color on each side, while the side markers should have the same color on each. Negative (-) should be the black wire for everything.

 

2. Now cut the BLACK wire on the SIDE MARKER and be sure to leave enough slack to work with (5 or so inches is best.)

 

3. Cut the COLORED wire on the TURN SIGNAL and splice it to the BLACK wire from the SIDE MARKER.

 

On the '07, there is a panel in the inner fender to access the bulbs. Turning the wheel helped a great deal to allow access. Removing the wheel might make it easier, but that is entirely up to you.

 

I have attached 2 sketches of what we are doing to help clarify. I made up my own colors for the wires, but the principle is the same. I do not see any reason this mod should not work on a 2010, but I have never tried it, so please don't be angry with me if it doesn't work. :) Good Luck!
