Hood Rusting?!?!?!

Recommended Posts

I was washing my 06 fusion saturday morning and i found a rust bubble on the edge of my hood. It's about 1/2 inch wide and 3 inches long on the right hand side of the hood above the grille. :heartbreaker:  :nonono:  :censored: :soapbox: I got 57000 miles on it and haven't seen this on any other ones i've worked on.

Stone chip that was never touched up? Bare metal rusts.

Nope no chips or nothing it's coming from underneath the hood. I pulled the black weatherstrip back under the hood and stuck my finger in and there's rust there too.

Probably just a defect in coating. Bummer it showed itself that late out of warranty :(

My Ranger had a similar problem. The bottom seam of the passenger door (where the inner met the outer) started rusting after 2 years (about 20,000 miles). It was somewhat fixed under warranty, but it came back about 6 years later. It was the only panel to rust on the truck for 12 years (stored outside all the time, driven in winter, etc..).

it's 5 years unlimited mileage. The service manager at my dealership said that it's gonna get fixed under warranty.

Thats good. Better the rust come through now then later.
