What a RIDICULOUS waste of disk space !.. 30GB for Album info (which is really the GRACENOTES DATABASE). Navteq should allow updating of this (AT LEAST) from the web with an update program such as SYNC uses. I can't believe the only way to get Album information is to purchase a $199 map update disk which MAY OR MAY NOT contain the album information you were seeking to begin with.. This is just another glaring example of why CAR COMPANIES shouldn't hang on technology companies. So only now thanx to this post do I determine that I can ONLY USE 10GB of the 40GB system! What a rip off!

Not only would I never pay $199 for a NAV map update, I would do so even LESS to obtain updated album information.

Fortunately you CAN key in this information (albeit somewhat painful). Lesson to be learned here: Don't purchase embedded technology in a car like SYNC or Navigation !.

Seems to me a 10gb hard drive and free gracenotes db (initially) is a lot better than NOTHING which is what was available before. You still have the option of using a mp3 player or usb flash drive where you can go out and get up to date album info for free. This is just another choice. If you don't like it don't use it. Good grief.

I am not going to use it anymore and I will not spend $200 to fix the problem in poor design.

They don't.

 

A 10-gigabyte music jukebox function stores more than 150 hours of music.

 

It was a free feature added to the nav system. If you don't like it don't use it. Maybe Ford will give you a refund for the cost of the jukebox option.

The 10GB Jukebox feature is an alternative to the 6-CD changer which is on the non-Nav cars.

 

If your CD isn't listed in the Gracenotes database, you can enter the data manually into the system, or if you a bit more tech saavy, you can use your home computer to burn a CD with the album information embedded in the tracks.

 

You can also ignore the Jukebox, and just use the USB port to play MP3s from you MP3 player or a USB flashdrive.

 

 

 

Sure there are a lot of things I would improve in the Jukebox (as well as other Sync and Nav technologies in the Fusion). But for the most part, I selected the Fusion for its automotive, not music, features, and even so the music technology is still more advanced than what it available from most competing auto manufacturers.

The reason you are having so many issues with the system is because half of what you said is not true.

 

First of all Ford does NOT make the radio, either Pioneer or Sony does. THEY (Pioneer or Sony) determine how to update the Gracenote system, NOT Ford (this is per Gracenote).

 

More information on this is available from the Gracenote website. You need to contact Pioneer or Sony for instructions on how to update their radio. If you have a higher end 2010 Fusion, Milan, or MKZ then most likely Sony makes the radio (800-222-7669). It is model number MEX-1HD. Call the number I listed and give them your radio model number and they will give you directions on how to update the Gracenote Database. If you don't know your radios model number then call Ford customer service.

Well now what you're saying is not true! The Nav system (the only one with Gracenotes) is made by Clarion. Sony only makes the amp. Pioneer made the previous (up to 2008) for Nav system.

 

And while it's true that Ford does not make the system, they do create specifications for the system and are responsible for distribution of software updates. That's why you can't take a Nav disc from Nissan and use it in a Ford, even though both are the same model made by Clarion.

 

But the whole Jukebox feature really is just a bonus. Clarion put in the hard drive to store the navigation and system data. When they were done they realized they still had some left-over space on the hard drive, so they created the Jukebox feature. Note that the new MyFord Touch system on the 2011 Edge does not have a Jukebox function, so Ford has already given up on it.

Once that happens I will update this thread. If I haven't reposted regarding this then that means they haven't contacted me (yet).

You can bark up Sony's tree all day long, but it won't get you very far as they only make the amp. The Nav system including the Gracenotes database is made by Clarion:

30GB is not just the Gracenote database. It's also the map information. Ford never advertised it as 40GB either...maybe your dealer lied to you, but Ford has always said that it's a 10GB system.

 

If you don't like it, you can just use your non-embedded technology that is less functional and more difficult to use because it's not completely integrated. That's your prerogative though.

I think you are looking at the wrong head unit. The MEX-1HD made by Sony sure does not look like the NAV unit in my Fusion. As Waldo says, it's made by Clarion. :redcard:

Accessing the music in your jukebox

 

Once you have saved music to your jukebox, you can then choose several ways to play your favorite music. To access:

 

1. Press the MEDIA hard button on the navigation system.

 

2. Select the ‘Jukebox’ tab on the touchscreen. You can then select from the following options:

 

Scan

: Press for a brief sampling of the currently selected CD, playlist, genre, etc. Press again to disengage.

Repeat

: Press to repeat the current CD, playlist, etc. Press again to disengage.

Shuffle

: Press to shuffle all the tracks on the current CD, playlist, etc. in random order. Press again to disengage.

Music library

: Press to access all of your saved music. You can choose to view/play the material in the following ways:

Has anyone tried to change the Genre of a CD they loaded in. A lot of the CD's I loaded were wrong. I made the change, it saves the change but when I do a look up under Genre it doesnt go to the correct group???

I go back in Edit and it does have the change I made???

I just purchased a used 2008 Fusion SEL with sync. I have the 6 c changer and no nav unit. I assume that I do not have jukbox capability and therefore cannot store music internally in the car correct?

Correct. You can load mp3s onto a usb memory stick and plug it into the USB port.
