~<Phushun>~ Report post Posted May 8, 2009 I am looking to get a nice bright but rich look to my parking lamps. I really like the look of the new Cadillacs. They have really rich amber parking lamps. Although, even being rich, they are really bright. I know that they become brighter when the turn signal is on, but I want them to be brighter and richer while just running the parking lamps. Is there a different bulb that I can use to obtain this safely? When my lights are on, they seem washed out and dull. Especially next to a Caddy. Maybe this is because they use a bright bulb that is behind an amber lens while the Fusion uses a amber bulb in a clear housing. I may be poking at a stupid and unattainable fix. Question: Want a richer and brighter look to my parking lamps. What bulb could I use to do this safely? Thanks!
Mercury Milan Report post Posted May 20, 2009 As far as I know caddy stopped using bulbs years ago. They are using LEDS on the newer ones. That's what I'll be using for my sequential turn signals on the Milan Premier. If you use a Superflux four chip LED they can be quite bright.

Tell me more... are those LED's have to be custom installed? When are you going to do this? I must see pictures. The Caddy's use LED's in the tail lights but the parking lamps on the front aren't. Mercury Milan Report post Posted June 1, 2009 are those LED's have to be custom installed?Which LEDs? Any non-factory part is always going to be custom installed. I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. When are you going to do this? IThe sequential turn signals will be ready late summer/early fall '09. (approx. 2-4 months from now). From the outside they will look completely factory as I am using genuine factory parts.
2010SEL Report post Posted June 1, 2009 There are LED "bulbs" that will fit in the standard bulb sockets. One thing is, they are usually larger than the standard bulbs, so they may not physically fit into the housing/reflectors on the vehicle. Look on eBay... there are dozens of vendors selling LEDs that will plug into standard sockets. If your car takes 3157 bulbs, which I believe it does, just do a search for "3157 LED" or something similar. Here is an example: LEDs

One of the reasons that some Cadillacs, Toyota pickups, 97-04 Buick Regals/Centurys, and other cars have brighter amber "park lights" is that they are DRLs (Daytime Running Lights). Some car companies chose to run the brighter "turn signal" part of the two element bulbs as DRLs instead of headlamps at a lower brightness. I really like the amber DRLs instead of the dimmed headlamps. If your car does not have amber DRLs and you want the brighter lights up front, Web Electric has a module to turn the front turn signal/parking lamp into a DRL. Check out: Universal DRLs and look under Daytime Running Lights at their DRL-1 Universal Daytime Running Lights Module. They have several other nice items for your car. I plan on putting the DRL-1 on my new 2010 Fusion Hybrid. Don

It is so true! I never thought about it like that but it all makes sense. They are DRL's. So obvious but I totally missed it. Amazing! And yes, I like the amber DRL much better then the dimmed headlamps. I just remembered seeing a Toyota Tundra with REALLY bright amber lights. Go figure. Thanks sooo much. Great insight and very appreciative of the feedback that I recieved. Adam
