saif Report post Posted November 30, 2023 Everyone, Im having an interesting issue with my transmission on a 2010 Milan Hybrid with 250k miles. Seemingly the Generator speed sensor in the transmission is starting to fail. Googling and research does not show any documented failures of internal transmission failures on 2010-2012 hybrids so I wanted to see if anyone had seen anything like this before and if they havent i can document my experience. Symptoms so far are as as follows: 1st incident - Cruising at about 40mph with mild acceleration (not in ev mode), engine suddenly revved up as if it was a manual transmission and i was in neutral, I immediately released the gas pedal since im used to driving manual and it was like missing a gear shift. No lights, car continued to drive normally, i did not even stop, reapplying acceleration worked normally. Checked codes with forscan without turning car off, nothing relevant. 2nd incident a few weeks later- Similar speed conditions, got the SSN message and lost all acceleration power, not even ev acceleration. Coasted into a parking lot and pulled codes, got a "Generator Speed sensor performance" code,.p0a50 Is there anyone who had the same problem and solved it? My email: ballack8889@gmail.com Please send me the solve problem
mmtphoto Report post Posted December 6, 2023 i found some stuff online like "The generator resolver detects the position of the magnetic poles, which are indispensable for ensuring the highly efficient control of the MG1 and MG2. The construction of the generator resolver and how it is connected to the HV control ECU are the same as those of the motor resolver."... it says: possible causes- Faulty Hybrid Vehicle Generator Hybrid Vehicle Generator harness is open or shorted Hybrid Vehicle Generator circuit poor electrical connection that is not much info, I'd try they usual voodo first like disconnecting the battery for a half hour, look for bad wiring or harness damage, look for what might be different-sounds like you have a scanner, I'd check and write down what you get and if you use a good one it will give you lots of sensor and module info and maybe even two way communication (i have an autel ms808 which is pretty decent). You have a lot of miles on it (i have a '10 fusion hybrid with 135,000) so hopefully it might be something simple (good 12 volt battery?)...these are really good cars if taken care of, but again those batteries are still doing the job 14 years later and a quarter million miles later, figures some weird trans thing would come up. I'm an old guy who figures if you get that many miles on anything, it has a finite ending coming soon. add to that a trans that no one wants to fix or replace for whatever reason (cost? availability? weirdness?). and found this... This code is related to the generator resolver, which is responsible for detecting the position of the magnetic poles in order to control the MG1 and MG2 efficiently. The generator resolver is connected to the HV control ECU in the same way as the motor resolver. When this fault code is triggered, it indicates that there is an overvoltage issue in the circuit of the generator position sensor. so no matter what, it sounds probably electrical, so pay attention to detail and go slow. good luck
