2012 Fusion Hybrid shuts off while driving

My 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid, 128K miles, just started dying completely while driving.  backing up in driveway, shut off - complete loss of power.  Restarted, started to drive away in the neighborhood, same thing happened.  Lights flashed on dash.  When I pulled over, service Advancetrac warning is illuminated, and both the advancetrac and advancetrac off light illuminate.  Reset the power w/ key, and it drives fine.

 

I don't know if the lights come on prior to shutting down, or if the lights are a result of loss of power.  I can't imagine advancetrac issues causing the car to shut down completely.

 

Any thoughts on why I'm losing all power?

Sorry.  Turned car off and restarted.  It went direct to EV mode until I got a few hundred years away towards home.

Update...

 

I needed to replace the brakes anyways (125k miles on them!!!!!).  They were still good, surprisingly, but needed replacement...

 

Cleaned things up a bit in the brakes, problem solved so far...

 

Did note the fluid level was kinda low - though well above minimum levels in the reservoir.   Replacement of brake pads and rotors raised level ~3/4 inch.  Added more to get it to max.

 

So, hopefully that was the issue.  I don't know if low fluid would fail the pump, and shut the car off completely?

You are seeing battery undervoltage.   How old is the 12 volt battery?  Those are notorious for aging badly, especially if you have things that are plugged into the cigarette lighter outlets while it is parked.   Short term thing is maybe carry one of those 12 volt jump start boxes.  Once the car has fully started up, the 12 volt system gets charged via a DC/DC converter from the main battery.  That is the next thing to look at. 

 

I just ended up replacing the front struts on my 2011 model on monday.  a thousand bucks.

My battery is only 2 years old, and I get errors as well.
As far as changing brake pads, I used to own a Chevy Cruze, 3700LBS car, and it lasted 66k miles on the brakes.
The Fusion is 4400LBS, but up to 40HP is used on regen (80 for the PHEV/Energi model).
Especially if you're braking on regen mostly, you won't need to change brake pads for at least the first 150-175k miles.

I don't know if this is relevant to your problem but my current situation is "similar."  My 2012 Hybrid stopped running as I got home the other day.  I turned it off, waited a few minutes, started it and it ran for a few blocks.  Then it died again.  This happened a few more times and then it would not run at all.  I had it towed to my dealer.  They ran a diagnostic on it and found that I had a fuel pump problem.  The engine would run when it got some gas and stop when it did not.  In the meantime it drained the Li-on battery completly.  Replacing the fuel pump is $900+.  When that is done they will check the battery.  The car looks like new and had run well but has 228k miles.  After reading about the batteries I think I am probably looking at servicing that soon if not now.  Oh yeah, when this happened I got a big red triangle on my dash with an explanation point inside it saying "Stop Safely Now."

I had this problem and it ended up being the MECS pump, which is for cooling the hybrid system components.

How did you resolve the MECS pump giving an error? I replaced mine, got the engine to run enough to re-fill the coolant, and it's still freaking out w/ the same codes.
