Adding second battery for car audio upgrade

Recommended Posts

Can I add a second battery? If so what parts are required to do so?

Thank you

You need more powerful alternator to do that. If you add it to your car in parallel circuit, it will charge twice slower. You can buy bigger and better (for example helium or AGM) accumulator.

Depends,

If the second car battery is just to act as a buffer, you can just install it in parallel.

Do know that if you want 500W subwoofers (loud enough to rattle you our of your chair), a second battery may only work for a good 15-20 min.

If on the other hand, you just want to install a single 8" 50W subwoofer, you don't even need a second battery, as the primary 12v battery is only used for starting up the car electronics. After this step, the highbvoltage battery takes over. That means you can safely install a small subwoofer system (probably best in the trunk).

A second battery could fit in the wheel well under the carpet in the trunk, or just in the trunk.

You can also replace the stock battery with a much larger one (like those for the f150 trucks), and just tie the battery down. There's a good 4 to 5 inches in width, and 3 to 4 in length, and about 3 in height of space between the walls and the stock battery.

Just buy the largest size battery that fits the compartment, and put some foam around it.

Unless you're crashing your car, or drive offroad, there's no need to tie down the battery. In my subaru, the 12v battery is just in a small tray, not tied up.

Hi all, can you give me a hint too. I need a new stereo for the car. I have a Ford Edge and a Ford Fusion. The Ford Edge was my first car, now the car's stereo has stopped working. Can you tell me which one I can get a new one? In the $800 range.

It all depends on the year of manufacture of the car, as for different years of the car is put different stereo, so it exactly matched in size, I know that in 2015-2018 years of manufacture is put the same stereo optional size and function. I recommend you look online for car stereo reviews, I found for the 2015-2018 Ford Edge Android Car Stereo https://smarty-trend.com/ford-edge/4614-ford-edge-2015-2018-android-car-stereo-navigation-in-dash-head-unit.html this car stereo. It has the most positive reviews. But the cost of course is not happy. You can try and find a cheaper one.
