Ford Fusion Wiring Harness Help

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I currently own a 2008 Ford Fusion with the Microsoft Sync system. I love the car and love the Sync system, but I just want a little more power in the system. So I am thinking of adding an amplifier to power a sub and rear deck speakers (I have the 6 speaker premium stereo right now).I know I will have to use a line output converter to run RCAs to an amp if I do this, which will require me tapping into the original factory harness. However, I don't want to cut into the original harness and instead cut into an aftermarket harness and this is where I am kind of confused.

I went ahead and purchased both a female harness (http://cgi.ebay.com/Car-Radio-Stereo-Install-wires-Ford-Fusion-06-2006_W0QQite mZ200235732421QQcmdZViewItem?IMSfp=TL0807011384r10524) and male harness (http://www.audiooutfitter.com/71-5520/metra/p642042.html)to plug back into the factory radio so I could avoid cutting into the original factory harness and just splice into those wires. Here is a link to that shows what the colors on the original Ford factory harness represent http://www.fordfusionforum.com/index.php?showtopic=1206. I tried finding a Ford OEM harness, but was not able to locate one.

I was just going to just solder all 20 or so wires together and then just reconnect it to the radio. However, if I were to solder all the wires together and then reconnect it to the factory radio, would that cause any problems for the stereo? Should I just solder certain wires like all the speakers and the 12Volt and accessory and so on? Also, will my steering wheel controls work like they did before?

I just don’t know what to do. I was hoping the harness would be the same color code as the Fusion's, but it is EIA color coded. I don't want to mess anything up and I want to get this harness situation squared away before doing anything else.

I hope someone here could help me out :)

Thank you!

there should be no issues as long as the harnesses/connectors have every pin/wire. it may seem odd that a harness/connector made for your car would have any pins/wires missing, but some models do (my harness adapter doesn't include pin/wire#19 -steering wheel button return).

since you'll be using 2 harness/connectors back-to-back (basically making a "pass-through" connector), then the wire colors won't matter. just match the pins up. if both harnesses use EIA color codes then it should be very easy (just match each color up). if each harness uses a different color then plug them into each other and use a DMM to match the wires up, then write down which color wires need to be soldered together.

good luck :)
