2017 Fusion Hybrid A/C not work when car is not moving

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have a problem with my fusion 2017. A/C is working only when the car is driving on the battery and engine. But when my car stands in a traffic jam, for example. air conditioning stops cooling. I can also see it on the radio application. On a hot day it is impossible to stand. Is this normal in a hybrid?

No, it's not normal, at least not in my 2015 FFH. When the car is stopped, the gas engine stops but the AC continues working since it's powered by electricity.

Sounds like maybe your radiator fan isn't turning, so you're not getting any airflow over the condenser when you're stopped.  When you are parked with the car and A/C on, can you hear the fan running under the hood?

the fan is turning when I drive normal or even very slowly, when I stop, it works for a few seconds - after that it does not turn on. when I start driving - it will turn on

That's a weird one, certainly seems like something is telling the controller to turn the system off in those conditions for some reason.  Have you tried a battery disconnect, just to see if resetting the module might give it a fresh start?

My fusion blasts cold air as soon as I sit in it and turn it on in a parking lot.   The hybrid may have a different system but you might just need pressure test, leak test and a recharge.

My old car did the same because during idle speed the rpms weren't high enough for the compressor to make it cold.  The compressor wouldn't come on all the time.  It would cycle intermittently for short periods of time because there wasn't enough coolant in it.  After 20 years it wasn't a huge surprise.

Check for the appropriate coolant for the fusion (usually on the hood most likely to be r134a) and CAREFULLY follow Chris Fix's tutorial below.

So I just recharged my a/c using the appropriate tools:

- the gauges borrowed from Autozone (make sure they give you a brand new set).

- The valve purchased at Autozone - this was the only tricky part because you have to study it to see how far you have to turn the handle to release the refrigerant from the can.  Maybe because I bought the cheapest valve it was more annoying.

- and a can of additive free coolant - cost me about $7 in the end (Menards).  I see a can of r134a on the Home Depot website for $5.27.

With the gauges you can borrow at Autozone you can at the very least check for the appropriate pressures (can't remember what they are now - for my old car it was I think 25-33psi on the cold side and 180-200 on the hot).

On my old car I didn't even fill it up to spec recommended pressure (I believe I got it to about 26 from a low of 12) yet it blows at 35 degrees, hopefully not too cold. You may have to use a vacuum pump because you're checking for leaks.

As he states all equipment can be had off Amazon. But you mustn't overfill it (above recommended pressure) as it could damage your system and it won't cool.  However, after doing it it was kinda hard to get it close to the recommended pressure.  So it is kind of hard to overfill it.  One can did the trick and the compressor only cycled off once every 3 minutes or so as it is supposed to.  I would check with an expert to make sure you can do an old school recharge on the hybrid though, but it's not that hard.  Just be very careful with those gauges: keeping them off (turned fully clockwise) before you connect and only opening them in instructed sequence and do not let coolant escape.  A little may when you push the air out of the hose using the blow off valve but that is normal.  Watch other tutorials online to get a good triangulation and fill in any gaps Chris Fix might forget to cover.

Make sure you have the car in 'drive' mode (the green car icon with arrows is shown).

If the icon is not on, the compressor isn't being powered.

Not sure it has to be in drive mode.  I just turn it on, leave it in park and push MAX a/c and let the arctic blast improve my day.  Helps to roll down all the windows first using the keypad (hold unlock) before you get to the car.

hello, today I checked thoroughly. In the parking lot compressor turns on for 8 seconds per 1 minute. the fan does not turn on. Under the hood I noticed one of the A/C hoses was hot. marked on the photo.

OK I just checked.  Yours is a little different from mine since I have a 14 and you have a 17. My fan comes on about 25 seconds after I turn on the a/c, just a small fan and the compressor whirs just as yours does and air comes out cold.   The caps you have on yours are green, while mine are black so someone MAY have worked on your a/c before and put different color caps on. You'll have to ask a 17 owner.

The thicker valve that leads to the thicker pipe should be the hot side. The thinner to the cold side.  The gauges you borrow (with deposit) from autozone will only fit to the nozzles correspondingly.

Did you try the battery reset suggested?  It's located in the trunk, left side in the compartment.  Disconnect one of the leads, put a rag or something to prevent it from connecting and go inside the car and turn on any lights or turn the ignition to make sure it is all disconnected.  Your presets on your radio etc. will get wiped.   If your fan never runs at all then you're going to need to have a pro check it or someone who knows why more than I do.  It's a little fan compared to other cars so double check.  My other 4 cylinder's fan gushes.

I'm having the exact same problem in my 2017 Fusion Hybrid.  Can you tell me which fuse # is the radiator fan fuse?  There are several "fan" relays and fuses.

problem solved. The cause was a blown radiator fan fuse.

try this site https://blownfuse.co/ford/fusion/2014-ford-fusion-fuse-box-diagram/#Power_Distribution_Box

Going to guess it is a 40amp fuse in slot 79.

79   40A1   Blower motor

This site says the same.  https://www.startmycar.com/us/ford/fusion/info/fusebox/2014

Same for 2017

Here's a youtube howto on just your question.

edit:  man they sure made that hard to get to.  What the h.... Well hope this helps even though I am not going from personal experience.
