2016 Energi - A/C while Charging...How?

Recommended Posts

How do I set up to run the A/C on 2016 Ford Fusion Energi while charging?  I'd like to step into a cool car after charging.

Does your car have the auto start feature on the remote?

If not, you'll have to manually start it.

It will run the ac at the last known settings.

Turning the car on (press brake and push start button), should not engage the engine, but just the electrical system.

Just pressing the 'push start' button, will only turn on the fan. Not the ac. You'll have to put it into drive mode.

If the car is above 90F, the ac might draw slightly more power than what you can get from the wall (I've seen it use up as much as 2500Watts + roughly 500W for fans and other electric components).

Best is to set your temperature, ac vents to the top vents, and set fanspeed to 3.

Ac should stabilize to ~250-500W after that.

There are 2 ways to do this.  One is to have preconditioning turned on via using a 'Go Time'.  It will turn on the A/C to reach the desired temp at the prescribed time.

The other way is to turn on the car manually (either by getting in, or remote start) and turn on the A/C 5 minutes or so before you want to leave.

Note that the "Go Time" method is less effective with 120V charging, which only delivers ~1440 Watts.  As noted above, the car can pull more than that running the A/C.  On preconditioning in heater mode (cold mornings) it will only use what is being delivered through the plug.  I assume the same for cooling.  However if you start the car manually, it will draw from both the plug and the HV battery as needed.
