jeff69r21 Report post Posted June 28, 2008 For all of you that would like to install an aftermarket headunit, but don't want to lose the ability to use SYNC, Metra has an answer. Metra has just released an adapter that can be used to adapt SYNC to your aftermarket HU. I don't know the part number and I don't know if this adapter will work. I am adding a Kenwood DVD player with Nav eventually, but I don't have the financial means to do so yet. If any of you want to try this adapter your local stereo shop should be able to order that part for you. Let us know if it works..... or I will let you know as soon as I can afford my DVD player. enormus Report post Posted June 28, 2008 Definitely keep us posted. I am happy with the NAV /Audiophile system, but it always nice to have options.
MadOx23 Report post Posted June 29, 2008 This would be amazing news. I'm definitely looking forward to installing an aftermarket nav system in, but don't want to lose my SYNC.
bigboyd4 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Please let us know. I ripped out the factory speakers on my '08 SE, put some real ones in (Pioneer) and added a 12" sub (Pioneer). Two amps, 4 channel for doors and tweeters, and one for sub only. Kept head unit because of Sync and security.

I must admit, after three days with my car, this is definitely the loudest stereo I've ever had stock. Not necessarily the best, but definitely loudest. There is a place near me that specializes in working with stock HU but upgrading the rest of the system.... I'm also going to have them install my remote start on with clutch and gear overrides. I'm letting Ford do my remote start with the other security functions. Only $250 for 08 Fusion. That's cheaper than my pro and according to my service dealer, it's outsourced work anyway. There are a lot of overrides (clutch on start and neutral check) to be installed, so a lot of places won't touch them. I will definitely look into you other thread. And I will definitely have a pro doing it. I'm figuring on this place, they come pretty highly recommended in this area...
Mercury Milan Report post Posted July 16, 2008 Actually the 2008 nav system from Ford is made by Pioneer. I'm sure the 2009 system will be the same. The Metra kit mentioned above is not perfect. It does not for example retain voice control for an iPod, so you'd lose all of that. These interfaces will also not work in vehicles equipped with factory navigation units. The part is from metras Axxess subsidiary and the part number is AFSI-01 (pictured below). The text display however for the Metra adapter is not that nice and definitely looks aftermarket. The new 2009+ Fords are supposed to also have video included, which this kit would not address either. A AFSI-02 version will also be available minus the LCD display. This adapter is not cheap, ranging in price from 250.00 - 275.00 :finger:
DFA Report post Posted August 3, 2008 I just put in a kenwood DVD player in my 08 SE. Its a few years old but my god the stock deck in the fusion is so terrible looking I had to get rid of it and I live with a installer so he had this deck for free. Going to put my old clarion 10" in the trunk today. But honestly I wasnt A huge fan of sync I mean its kinda cool an all but I felt like a dumbass talking to my car..only thing about my kenwood is theres no USB plug in :( just AUX.
