HU / SPEAKER INSTALL ON 08 FUSION

i am by no means a car audio expert. i have installed complete systems in my previous vehicle as well as a few others so i have a pretty good idea what i'm doing. i have an 08 fusion with the sync system.

 

i havnt been able to find anything online on how to take apart the dash / doors to install the HU and door speakers. has anyone done this on an 08 fusion? i'm guessing the dash just has some clips that can be popped off but i dont want to just wing it and break the piece. same with the door speakers i'm guessing just a few screws and a pry bar will do it.

 

also i was at one of the audio dealers and he said i might need a PAC accessory kit, but he wasnt sure. anyone know if i need this? are there any good websites besides crutchfield that i can get a dash/harness kit

 

if anyone has any pictures or descriptions that would help i would appreciate it.

Not sure about all the aftermarket parts... just one thing you may or may not be aware of already: if you do swap out the headunit, you'll lose Sync.

For sure you'll lose sync, and you need a converter to keep your Steering wheel audio controls

 

You can find one at www.crutchfield.com

 

Click on car audio. You'll find on a TAB Car Stereo&component and it's in Steering wheel audio control adapter.

 

For the dash : just pull gently from the bottom with a screwdriver.

just use your hands to pull the center bezel off. you don't need any tools. I find the easiest way is to start at the bottom left and work your way around (counter-clockwise). even if you were to break it, it's a cheap part to replace (about $30-$40 from a local dealer).

 

the "PAC accessory kit" he was referring to was most likely for the steering wheel buttons. they are available in both wired and wireless models. the wired models are for specific brand HUs, and make for a cleaner install, but the wireless model allows you to program your steering wheel buttons to do any function you want.

 

crutchfield is good for accessories like harnesses and PAC modules, but they are very overpriced for head units, amps, and speakers. sonicelectronix.com has much better prices and they include the same "free extras" (like wire harness adapters and installation kits) that crutchfield does ;)

thanks for all the help so far guys.

 

i've got the flip screen installed, and i'm working on the door speakers. when i took the door panel off i saw there were two plugs going to the factory speaker. one plug had a white and white/black wire. the other plug was green/orange and gray/orange. i don't have a wire harness kit so i'm going to splice them.

 

my question is which two wires do i splice and tie together? (both whites together and both oranges together? or the other way) and then also which one to hook to the positive speaker terminal.

i ended up figuring it out. two of the wires were going to the tweeter so connected the tweeter positive with the speaker positive. rear speakers were piece of cake.

 

i put in two sets of jl audio tr570csi's and a jensen vm9312 dvd screen.

But doesnt this put the Total resistance on that channel @ 2 ohms which pretty much all headunits cant support so it would end up damaging your HU because its internal amp will run too hot and the sound not be clean?
