Jazz62 Report post Posted January 17, 2021 (edited) 2010 FFH, 53K miles. Yesterday, drove about 25 miles on the highway and immediately when exiting the car smelled a hard to describe smell. Sort of a chemical odor that smelled of heat. Sorry, it was hard to describe. It immediately dissipated. Sniffing around the back of the hood near the windshield and the front wheel well there was nothing. The smell was not present inside the car. It was not a coolant, oil or hot brake smell. Same thing happened on the return trip home. Any ideas? Edited January 17, 2021 by Jazz62
sirtanoby Report post Posted May 7, 2021 (edited) Probably a dirty or really heated vent. Were you able to find the source though? Edited May 7, 2021 by sirtanoby
MeeLee Report post Posted May 16, 2021 Could be some dirt on the exhaust? Unlike the fiesta (st) which melted plastic when going over 100MPH, the fusion 2.0 liter doesn't burn anything I noticed, even at the electronically limited 118MPH top speed. Just check the engine bay for any fluid leaks. Fluid reservoirs for any low fluids. And underside for anything sticking to the exhaust pipe.

Sorry for the delay in replying. These notices went into my spam folder. What type of vent are you referring to? On 5/16/2021 at 12:24 PM, MeeLee said: Could be some dirt on the exhaust? I did look around the best I could and I can't find a drop of anything anywhere. Very frustrating as it just did it yesterday after not doing it since I originally posted my question. MeeLee Report post Posted June 5, 2021 Try looking at some plastics around the exhaust. Is it getting worse when you drive the car hard (higher speeds)? I know my Fiesta ST started smelling like molten plastic, as soon as I took it past 100MPH. Turned out it was a sticker close to the exhaust/turbo that just started melting. Nothing serious. But it's probably not the situation you're facing.
