Powertain Failure Light and Stuck Rotatory Shifter

Recommended Posts

Orange light comes on only when car is running and shifted into park. Light first came on a few weeks ago, with absolutely no noticed signs of anything being wrong. Slowly my gear shift would stick in park or get stuck in reverse, happened one or two times and then yesterday I get in my car and start it up and my gear shift was stuck in park and the manual override would not even make it budge. We tore my center console apart and was able to get to the actual rotary shifter and we were able to disconnect everything and beat on the back of the shifter and ever since its been shifting in and out of gears with no issues at all. But my powertrain symbol still shows. We plugged it into the computer and got a clear scan. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Currently having the same issue. Were you ever able to find out what was causing it?

Same issue here, I normally punch on it and it unlocks, but not a reliable fix. Havent find a real fix.

Could it be an issue with the linkage? seems there is issues with many models where the bushing deteriorates and the car is essentially still in reverse when the gear stick is in park

I had the linkage issue previous to the stuck gear selector issue... and cable is still linked to the transmission post.

My guess is that something inside the selector (more precisely the motor that unlocks the shifter) gets stuck on a position where it can move when you try to move it.

But Im not sure if this is a recurring problem, or if I should check something else..

Yes, I had this on my old 2018 ffh hyti and it was the gear selector assembly. The car would be stuck and I couldn’t shift. Quick fix was to hit it hard and it would work. Not very good idea but it worked.

i had extended warrant y and it was covered car had 65k on it at the time. Cost was around $400 if I didn’t have the warrant y
