"Active X" Setaing Surface Discolaration

Recommended Posts

Hi all,.. 2019, Hybrid SEL here,.. less than 10 weeks old with 5,700 miles. The drivers seating surface is already showing some 'serious' discoloration on the seating surfaces. Primarily in the seat cushion and in the lumbar area of the bolster. This appears to be discoloration from clothing as I can see the imprint of one of my braided style leather belts (black in color) in the lumbar area. Regardless, the old Fusion went 7 years before I started seeing any discoloration like this. I do not wear anything dyed or wet into the car, primarily regular wool blend or polyester blend dress pants and/or blue jeans and/or a fleece type sweat pant. I DO however occasionally use the seat heater in warm weather to soothe my sore back, but NEVER to the point of sweating in those areas. A) Has anyone seen any type of discoloration with this seating material,.. and B) Do any of you think the use of the seat heater could be contributing to the problem. Appreciate and and all feedback,...

Did you ever get a resolution to this?  I purchased a a new ford explorer with active x seating.  A few days after I noticed the drivers seat had  a smooth area all the way across the seat cushion near where the back of your knees hit - like it had worn down.  Perfectly smooth material in just that area.  The car only had 300 miles - I had it less than a week.  I did not use any cleaners so I am fairly sure it was that way when I bought it.  It was pouring rain the day I bought it and in the days after so I didn't really look the seat over as well as I should have.  Ford won't cover it - they say I can't prove it was that way when I purchased it.

bro have you called or tweeted or pinged any of the corporate offices for support on this?  I wouldn't blame the entire company for the behavior of one guy.  Especially a sales guy...

this sounds like a poorly managed dealership, that would rather make a couple hundred more bucks of commission instead of getting the seat fixed while they had it on the sales floor.

they probably get vender prices for OEM parts too which is fucked up.

Anyways I'm sure Ford corporate staff would agree the right thing to do is just eat the cost, fix the seat.  it's better than losing a customer.

You shouldn't have to, because it was new....  People always notice things later and a reasonable person would understand that.  So if you aren't trying to cover up an oopsie you made 300 miles into the car experience, be persistent and demand resolution on threat of losing future business.

good luck.
