Chirp in Instrument Panel

Recommended Posts

Sitting in my 2007 Fusion SEL (5 speed manual, 4 cylinder engine, automatic A/C - if that's all relevant), I have starting noticing a chirp that seems to come from the center IP or from under the glove box. So far I haven't stuck my head down there to see exactly where it's coming from. It's not the blower motor spinning though it may be somehow related to the blower motor. The sound occurs at 2-3 minute intervals while the car is running or when the key is in the "ON" position.

I was guessing that it was another of the car's characteristic "fuse popping" sounds that I hear when I activate the wipers or other electrical components.

Does any one have a definitive answer?

THANKS!!!

It's probably the clock. The SEL (I have one) has an analog clock, every minute the minute hand advances and it sort of chirps.

Imagine my embarassment at having missed something that in retrospect seems so clear. Needless to say it took less than sixty seconds of further investigation to conclude that the chirp was actually the clock advancing. Thanks for the tip.

This will make you laugh. A few years ago, I had a car that I noticed a "chirp" every two minutes. Did not matter if key was on or off. I clocked it. Every 120 seconds, I would hear the chirp. (Is my car bugged, or what?). Well, I listened, and it sure sounded like it was coming from under the dash. Took the top of the dash off, and could not find it. Was driving me crazy.

A couple days later, while cleaning the floor of the back seat, I saw it. There on the seat was a "Phone Pager" that dropped out of a friends pocket. Because it had a message on it that had not been read, it would chirp every two minutes until read.

Good thing the top of that dash was easy to take off
