wrench light at highway speeds. no change in performance

Recommended Posts

New to the forum and ownership of a 2010 FFH. Car is great. First trip away from home we got a wrench light when traveling at highway speeds. As soon as I would turn off the ignition, it would go away. It would come back on at highway speeds. Not all of the time though. It was warmer (80's) for Washington State. I am concerned that maybe the battery was heating up. No change in performance of the vehicle. Just a bit concerning as we just purchased the vehicle. So far I am pretty impressed with the vehicle and love the challenge to see what mileage I can get.

I get this too occasionally when driving for periods at 74-80 MPH. Like yours, it goes away as soon as the ignition is turned off.
I've scanned for codes and there are no MIL on so I don't really worry about it.

I had this issue at 75 MPH + on a hot day, couple of years ago. Shut car off and restarted, all OK. Back on the road, and light came on. Hooked up a code reader and got nothing. Somewhere I read that was a software issue having to do with coolant readings. Took to the dealer, they flashed the computer, no more problems.

Take it to Ford. There's a TSB that increases motor/electronics cooling pump speed. They are overheating as the car gets older and cooling system efficiency deteriorates.

I Know it's an older thread but I had to reflash PCM and reply electronic cooling system

Where you able to do this yourself with Forscan or did you have a dealer do it?

When I had the wrench light turn on under similar conditions, my auto mechanic said it was the water pump designated for the high-voltage battery was failing. He replaced the water pump, and I haven't seen the wrench light since--even on hot days when I would have seen the wrench symbol. This goes with the recommendation up in this thread to take the issue to a dealer or trained auto mechanic to fix it.
